Avon Motorcycle Tyres says it is capitalising on the recent surge of interest in British bike brands, adding original equipment fitment contracts to its roster and responding to increased demand for premium whitewall tyres.
A statement published by Yokohama Rubber expresses the tyre maker’s satisfaction in gaining TÜV SÜD certification for its first European all-season tyre. The Yokohama BluEarth-4S AW21 achieved this distinction after being subjected to benchmark tests by the German technical service organisation.
According to Bridgestone Corporation, its global investments in research and development are the highest in the industry – it invested more than £710 million in this area last year – and the company says they’ve paid off. TVS Srichakra Limited (TVS Tyres) has disclosed its intention to participate in the rights issue offered by its wholly owned subsidiary, TVS Srichakra Investments Limited (TVSSIL). In a notification sent to the BSE today, the Indian tyre maker said it would participate to the extent of its entitlement, which is 409,780 shares for a consideration of Rs 59.9 million (£663,700).
Tyre manufacturers in the USA will benefit from the construction of what is said to be largest propylene oxide (PO) and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) plant ever built. Plastics, chemicals and refining company LyondellBasell broke ground on its new facility in Texas yesterday and will invest US$2.4 billion – the largest single capital investment in the firm’s history – to set up a plant capable of producing 470,000 tonnes of PO and a million tonnes of TBA per annum. The plant is expected to enter operation in 2021.
Following on from its fitment of Michelin CrossClimate+ tyres to 148 rapid response Skoda Scout cars last year, East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) has now moved its 449-strong blue light ambulance fleet across to a 100 per cent Michelin Agilis CrossClimate tyre policy. The rollout will see 332 Fiat Ducato accident and emergency ambulances and 117 Peugeot Boxers fitted with Michelin rubber.

Continental has updated its guidance for the 2018 fiscal year to reflect lower sales expectations, cost increases and warranty claims. The Maxxis Group’s first tyre factory in India opened in March. The facility in Gujarat state was set up with an investment of US$400 million and began operating with an initial daily capacity of 20,000 tyres and 40,000 tubes. Maxxis Rubber India shares that original equipment tyres have now begun to be shipped from the 43-hectare Sanand plant to Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), and it plans to supply one million tyres to its OEM partners by the end of the year. Furthermore, the tyre maker intends to complement its recently-opened plant with five additional factories in India that will produce tyres for other segments.
