Kumho tyres OE on Volkswagen Atlas

The Volkswagen Atlas is not just the newest member of the VW family, it is also the largest. The seven-seater SUV is primarily aimed at the North American market; however, this heavyweight is also expected to attract buyers in markets such as China, Russia and the United Arab Emirates. Kumho Tire reports that its Kumho Crugen Premium KL33 has been selected as an original equipment tyre for the Atlas, with models rolling off the Volkswagen production line in Chattanooga, Tennessee fitted with the tyre in size 245/60 R18 105T.

Thinking ahead: Hankook Tire preparing for IAA CV

Even though Hankook Tire is now – as are many within the tyre industry – making final preparations for next week’s The Tire Cologne, the tyre maker is already getting ready for the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles fair. Offering a sneak preview of what we can expect to see this September, it shares that the show in Hannover, Germany will host the world premiere of a new Hankook mixed on- and off-road tyre line-up that includes steer, drive and trailer axle fitments. Hankook Tire also intends to announce further growth in its business with truck OEMs.

The Tire Cologne: Prometeon showing latest Pirelli products

The new range of Pirelli agricultural tyres and the latest Pirelli truck products will be on display at the Prometeon Tyre Group stand at next week’s The Tire Cologne. These can be found at Stand C48/D49 in Hall 7.

Infinity launching new all-season tyre

The Dubai-based Al Dobowi Group will present a new Infinity all-season tyre at The Tire Cologne next week. Known as the Ecofour, the all-season rubber is coming to market in a launch range of 24 sizes

UK, EU car markets grow in April

The EU passenger car market returned to growth in April 2018 after demand declined in March. According to figures released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, a total of 1,206,273 passenger cars were registered last month, a year-on-year growth of 9.6 per cent. Growth in the UK market exceeded the European average, rising 10.4 per cent year-on-year to 167,911 new registrations.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was recently recognised by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) with a Leadership Award for promoting innovative practices to improve worker safety.

Senard reappointed Michelin CEO

Following the election of Florent Menegaux as general managing partner and Yves Chapot as non-general managing partner at Michelin’s Annual Shareholders Meeting on 18 May, SAGES, Michelin’s non-managing general Partner, acted on the Michelin Supervisory Board’s recommendation and appointed Jean-Dominique Senard, general managing partner, as chief executive officer. Senard, who was first appointed chief executive officer of Michelin in 2012, will serve as chief executive officer until the end of his term as managing partner, which is the close of the Annual Shareholders Meeting called to approve the 2018 financial statements.

MWheels to work with DfT to improve CV wheel safety

Negotiations to rectify the Department for Transport’s apparent failure to incorporate European Union Directives 2014/45/EU and 2014/47/EU into the wheel-related section of the new Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual has yielded a positive result for MWheels. The commercial vehicle wheel specialist shares that following a meeting with the DfT, DVSA and Parliamentary representative Mike Kane MP on 17 May, the DfT “has agreed to work with MWheels to investigate ways in which the Heavy Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual’s section on wheels can be enhanced to improve vehicle safety.”

A colour for every country – P Zero Colour Edition at Ferrari Challenge

Pirelli is bringing a splash of colour to the Ferrari Challenge. The safety car used in the single-marque championship will be fitted with P Zero Color Edition tyres, with a different colour used for each country where a round takes place.

Bridgestone voted Australia’s most trusted tyre brand

Australian Reader’s Digest has compiled and released its 2018 Most Trusted Brands list, and Bridgestone returns as a top-ten trusted brand. The tyre maker was ranked in tenth place across all trusted brands categories, finishing ahead of Aussie staples such as Vegemite and Aerogard. Bridgestone also claimed the title of ‘Australia’s Most Trusted Tyre Brand’ – a distinction introduced in 2014 – for the fifth consecutive year. Goodyear and Michelin were named as ‘highly recommended’ brands in the tyre category.

Microplastics: Government to tackle tyre pollution

Tyres aren’t part of the food chain and they certainly don’t belong in our air and water. Even the powers that be realise this and the government says it will work to combat the problem. The how and with whom of this was outlined in the draft Clean Air Strategy 2018 document released by Environment Secretary Michael Gove on 22 May.

More versatility for John Deere ‘6’ tractors with STARCO wheel solution

After more than a year of testing in the fields of Lithuania together with local John Deere distributor Dojus Group and distributor Bohnenkamp, STARCO says it can now offer a replacement wheel solution for the John Deere 6 tractor series. This new solution enables the fitment of non-standard wheels and tyres of different widths as well as dual mount wheels.

SRI breaks ground in Slovenia

At a ceremony attended by Slovenia’s Prime Minister, Dr Miro Cerar, and other national and local dignitaries, Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI) broke ground on 17 May at its newest site. The plant project in Logatec, Slovenia focuses on non-tyre production, specifically the manufacture of rubber parts for medical applications, and builds upon the company’s acquisition of Lonstroff AG in 2015.
