The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) has announced the appointment of Sean Moore as Director of Government Affairs. During the first half of 2018, online tyre retailer Delticom achieved revenues of 290.5 million euros, a year-on-year decrease of 2.2 per cent. EBITDA rose 36.0 per cent to 6.8 million euros and the margin increased from 1.7 per cent to 2.3 per cent. Goodyear Tire & Rubber has selected Shaesta Waiz, the youngest woman to fly solo around the world in a single-engine aircraft, to christen Wingfoot Three. The ceremony for this latest addition to the Goodyear blimp fleet will be held on 30 August at Goodyear’s Wingfoot Lake Hangar.
Earlier this year, MWheels established an operation in Germany to spearhead the company’s push into mainland Europe. MWheels GmbH opened for business on 1 February, with the plan being to build up a team over the following 12 to 18 months. This team has now been strengthened with the appointment of Stefan Kantz as European office coordinator.
With his win at Brands Hatch last weekend, Paul Di Resta closed the gap with championship leader, fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Garry Paffett, to just 29 points in the overall standings. For Toyo Tire & Rubber, the first half of 2018 was a period of mixed fortunes. The manufacturer reports that turnover and earnings within its core tyre business increased 3.9 per cent during the six months to 30 June, with sales of 160,046 million yen (£1.1 billion) and operating income of 22,669 million yen (£160.8 million) resulting in a slightly improved profit margin of 14.2 per cent. Overall sales were down 3.3 per cent, to 185,738 million yen (£1.3 billion), due to decreased turnover within the company’s automotive parts business.
A new role for Joseph Saoud at Bridgestone Americas. The former president, truck bus radial and retread tyres, US and Canada, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, has been named president, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations Latin America. In this role, Saoud will oversee the Bridgestone tyre business in Latin America, which includes subsidiaries in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico. He will report directly to Gordon Knapp, president and chief executive officer of Bridgestone Americas.
Since late 2015, the Marangoni Ringtread process has been represented in India by Marangoni GRP, a joint venture between the Marangoni Group and India rubber recycler GRP. The joint venture operation has now begun the rollout of a network of franchised retreaders within the country – the first, Autobahn Retreading, has opened its doors in the city of Kochi (Cochin). The Autobahn Retreading plant was officially inaugurated by Giuseppe Marangoni, vice-president of the Marangoni Group, together with GRP’s chief executive officer, Harsh Gandhi.

Continental is set to gain a sizeable retail presence in Australia through its acquisition of acquire Kmart Tyre and Auto Service (KTAS), one of the country’s largest tyre and auto service suppliers. The company says the purchase of KTAS from Wesfarmers Limited for AU$350 million (£199.8 million) will “greatly reinforce” its tyre dealership network in Australia.
