ZF Openmatics and Maxion Wheels claim a world first with their jointly-developed Smart Wheel Connectivity System. This fully-integrated wheel sensor system can track, analyse key data such as tyre pressure, temperature, wheel load and other wheel and tyre performance metrics and then broadcast this data to drivers, fleet operators, mobility providers and infrastructure authorities. The solution is suitable for use with a variety of vehicle types, including commercial vehicles and agricultural machinery.
Auto motor und sport has taken a look at winter tyres for compact SUVs in its latest comparative test. The tyre size it evaluated is 215/55 R17, a dimension worn by the VW T-Roc test vehicle as well as the Audi Q2, Fiat 500x, Hyundai Kona and others. The German magazine’s experts subjected 11 brands of tyre to various tests in wet, dry and snow conditions, with performance in each of these three areas contributing 30 per cent to the final result. Wegmann automotive, the company behind the Hofmann Power Weight and Perfect Equipment wheel balancing weight and the Hofmann Power Solutions battery bushings brands, has acquired the valve business of Alligator Ventilfabrik. Under the terms of the agreement reached between the two firms, Wegmann automotive will take ownership of Alligator sales and distribution operations for passenger car and heavy-duty truck tyre valves as well as for TPMS sensors and tools in both Europe and North America.
Michelin has responded to news published by Reuters yesterday regarding a joint venture with Continental and French agricultural IT services company SMAG. It confirms that the three parties will enter into a joint venture, however it will not be – as stated by Reuters – related to tyre production.
Portuguese retreader Recauchutagem 31 has celebrated 50 years in the business with a celebration attended by some 400 guests. From humble beginnings with just five employees and a 400 square metre facility in 1969, the retreader has grown over the years into a business that employs 88 and produces up to 500 tyres a day in sizes up to and including 27.00R49. Commenting on the company’s half century, Carlos Marques, chief executive officer of Recauchutagem 31, said: “Many thanks to our employers, our suppliers and our customers for help us these 50 years working with the best quality.”
