GKN Automotive is collaborating with Drive System Design and the University of Nottingham on an £8 million project to design and develop a world-leading electric vehicle powertrain for the global market.
A new 12-inch STARCO dual wheel solution for wheel loaders will arrive later this year. The company developed the STARCO AW Mini in close collaboration with Finnish loader manufacturer Avant Tecno, drawing upon its existing experience with other dual wheel solutions and the GS Schaad clamp system.

A new Camso tyre has been introduced for the agro-industrial market. The Camso MPT 732 is a multi-purpose cross-ply tyre developed to meet the requirements of end users in Europe and other markets in the EMEA region. Camso says the MPT 732 has been “engineered for exceptional traction, stability and durability under a variety of conditions.”

Maxion Wheels and new joint venture partner, Dongfeng Motor Parts and Components Group, have held a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of their 22,000 square metre aluminium wheel plant in Suizhou, China. With the launch of its latest range of pre-cure treads, Marangoni Retreading Systems has fully integrated its European product lines. The new range only includes two brands – PRL and Unitread – and Marangoni says this will lead to a “significant reduction of the complexity previously caused by product overlaps.”
Tatneft reports that structural changes have been implemented in its Kama Tyres tyre manufacturing business. The Russian company reports that its OOO Nizhnekamsk Truck Tyres Factory has now joined together with the OOO Nizhnekamsk SSC Tyre Factory. It says the aim of this change is to improve the efficiency of the company’s petrochemical production process management system.
Michelin has named Alexis Garcin as the next chairman and president of Michelin North America. He succeeds Scott Clark, who was recently promoted to Michelin’s Group Executive Committee as executive vice president responsible for the global passenger car and light truck business, motorsports, Experiences (including the Michelin Guides) and regional oversight of the Americas.
Nokian Tyres says the rolling resistance of its tyres is now eight per cent lower on average than in 2013. It points out that this reduction is the equivalent of exhaust fumes from 65,000 cars.
Toyota has chosen Hankook tyres as original equipment for the North American market 2020 Corolla. The new model, which went on sale in April, wears the Hankook Kinergy GT (pattern H436) in size 205/55R16 91H.

The International Carbon Black Association (ICBA) recently awarded 12 Birla Carbon plants and a R&D centre certificates of recognition for achieving an above industry average level of safety performance. Eleven plants and the USA-based Marietta R&D Laboratory received the gold award while one plant received the bronze award. The Birla Carbon plants in North and South America, Europe and Asia were amongst 44 carbon black manufacturing facilities around the world to receive this recognition as part of the ICBA’s ‘Safety Recognition Program’.
Priorities for operators of coaches and buses differ from those for other commercial vehicle types. While safety is important for all, these passenger vehicles must also be particularly quiet and comfortable. Acknowledging the coach segment’s unique requirements, Bridgestone has announced its first tyre fully dedicated to these vehicles, the Bridgestone Coach-AP 001.
With the launch of the Duravis R002, Bridgestone is offering fleets an “ultra-durable” tyre that is designed to lower operational costs per kilometre through “outstanding wear performance and optimised fuel efficiency.” The main four Bridgestone Duravis R002 sizes will be available as of September 2019, with six additional sizes arriving next year. The arrival of the Duravis R002 will simplify Bridgestone’s line-up in the versatility segment by replacing all current products.
