SEMA appoints Kosikov VP of sales
Warren Kosikov has been named vice-president of sales for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). In this position he will lead the sales team and guide the day-to-day sales strategy for both the SEMA and PRI Shows, SEMA News and Performance Racing Industry magazines and related media content. Kosikov, who joined SEMA in 2014, has more than 30 years of industry experience.

These words are being written in the unseasonably mild final days of February, and I’m not alone in hoping the sunshine augurs an early start to spring. Alliance 398 MPT: ATG’s ‘turning point’ for the agri and forestry sectors
Alliance Tire Group claims to have written “a new chapter in the history of efficient transportation” with the release of its Alliance 398 MPT multi-purpose tyre for trucks used in agricultural and forestry applications. The tubeless 398 MPT was developed to provide optimum traction and soil protection when off-road as well as speeds of up to 100 km/h and excellent driving stability on the road. The result, says ATG, is shorter work cycles as well as time and labour savings.
Trelleborg debuts Phoenix TPMS
Visitors to this year’s Bauma construction and mining machinery trade fair are amongst the first to see Phoenix TPMS, a new cloud-based system for construction tyres from Trelleborg Wheel Systems. Trelleborg claims its Phoenix TPMS will “enhance productivity in critical applications and to make the operator’s life easier in the most demanding environments.”
Court win for Bridgestone in Shengtai Group infringement case
Bridgestone says it “takes seriously any unauthorised use or infringement of its patents, design rights, trademarks, or any other intellectual property,” and in the past the tyre maker has shown itself willing to legally challenge such infringements. It has now announced another court victory: Bridgestone has received a favourable ruling from the Beijing Intellectual Property Court in its design rights infringement lawsuit against major Chinese tyre manufacturer Shengtai Group.
Official launch for TyreCube shipping solution
CEVA Logistics and Goodpack, which operates the world’s largest fleet of Intermediate Bulk Containers, have officially launched their TyreCube solution. TyreCube is a patented collapsible and stackable container for shipping tyres worldwide.

Bridgestone developing tyres for Japanese Moon mission
When you only have one-sixth the gravity you’re accustomed to, you need a tyre that makes good contact with the surface. This is why Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Toyota Motor Corporation have asked Bridgestone to contribute its expertise to their new joint project. The tyre maker will draw upon its knowledge of tyre contact patches and develop an elastic wheel that will support the weight, acceleration and braking of the lunar rover that JAXA and Toyota intend to build.
Alliance launches A585 for compact & backhoe loaders
ATG has presented its latest addition to the Alliance tyre range at the Bauma show. The Alliance A585 has been developed for construction machinery such as compact and backhoe loaders. ATG says the A585 offers excellent traction on dry, wet and wintery surfaces. It adds that the tyre also features superior puncture resistance and extremely low wear, particularly when used on hard and highly abrasive surfaces.
Bridgestone opens new Mining Solution Centre in Australia
Bridgestone’s mining tyre service subsidiary in Australia has established a second solution centre in the country. Bridgestone Mining Solutions Australia Pty. Ltd. (BMSA) opened the Hunter Valley Mining Solution Centre (HMSC) yesterday.
TGI appoints Wheeler to head North American sales team
US-based independent tyre wholesaler Tire Group International (TGI) has appointed Rick Wheeler its vice-president of National Sales. In his role, Wheeler is responsible for sales, marketing, and customer service teams for the North American market.
‘A compromise of the compromise’ – Vredestein wins all-season tyre test
Past tyre tests have on occasion presented all-season tyres as a compromise solution, a jack of all trades but master of none. But is this always the case? German car magazine Auto Bild Allrad doesn’t think so – in its current test of seven size 235/55 R19 SUV tyres, the publication opines that all-season products are no longer a “lazy compromise”. While noting that a single tyre that can do everything well at all times of year still doesn’t exist, Auto Bild Allrad found one that came close.

Donald Chen named CEO of Arlanxeo
As of 1 May, Donald Chen will succeed Jorge Nogueira as chief executive officer of Arlanxeo. Nogueira is retiring from the rubber manufacturer after a career spanning nearly 40 years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
Vellco offering Brexit-proof service
Vellco Tyre Control has reassured its partners and customers of its ability to continue providing the same level of product and service delivery even in the event of a No Deal Brexit. It says it “will remain a dependable supplier of casings across the EU Zone” regardless of the “potential turbulent post-Brexit environment.”
