STARCO dual wheels now an option for Valtra tractors

Around 30 years ago, tractor manufacturer Valtra implemented a radical strategic change that resulted in the production of machinery that is amongst the most customisable in the world. Pretty much every Valtra tractor is unique, and a third of the approximately 9,000 Valtra tractors manufactured last year went through a customising studio called Unlimited. Now, for the first time, buyers can select STARCO dual wheels on their new tractor as part of this customisation process.

Continental bosses lay foundation stone for new HQ

The foundation stone for Continental’s new headquarters in Hannover, Germany is now in place, and the company says its construction project is on schedule. Chief executive officer Dr Elmar Degenhart and Executive Board members Dr Ariane Reinhart and Wolfgang Schäfer hosted a ceremony to mark the occasion at the construction site last Wednesday.

Asahi Kasei – 2020 move to new Europe HQ

Synthetic rubber and chemicals company Asahi Kasei is relocating its European headquarters. Asahi Kasei Europe (AKEU) will remain in Düsseldorf, Germany, however in the second half of 2020 will move to a location in Düsseldorf harbour. In this new location, the company intends to consolidate its sales, marketing and R&D activities, thereby further enhancing its business approach to the European automotive industry.

Luca Mai joins Triangle Tyre as OTR director for Europe

As of 1 May, Triangle Tyre has strengthened its team within our region with the appointment of Luca Mai as OTR director, Europe. Mai joins Triangle Tyre from Marangoni, where he worked for 18 years, most recently as sales director for TBR and OTR tyres.

Paolo Roversi to shoot 2020 Pirelli Calendar

Paolo Roversi has been given the remit of snapping pics for the 2020 Pirelli Calendar. The Italian-born, Paris-based photographer brings half a century of experience to the role. Pirelli comments that Roversi is “considered one of the most talented contemporary photographers, above all for his style which is personal and highly recognisable.”

Nokian Tyres names new SVP for Central Europe

Bahri Kurter has been appointed Nokian Tyres’ new senior vice president, Central Europe. The tyre maker reports that he will take up the position in July 2019 at the latest, joining Nokian Tyres from Groupe SEB, where he was general manager D-A-CH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Previously, Kurter served in various leadership positions at Puma, Nike and Procter & Gamble.

Formula 2: Pirelli supplying 18” tyres from 2020

In 2021, Formula 1 will bid farewell to 13-inch rims and tyres with chubby sidewalls, with the switch to an 18-inch dimension taking place that season. The onus falls upon exclusive tyre supplier Pirelli to develop rubber for the 2021 F1 cars, and Pirelli says its development will be greatly aided by the adoption of the 18-inch tyre size in ‘feeder’ series Formula 2 from 2020.

EfTD growing with the ‘right opportunities and matches’

European FinTyre Distribution (EfTD) has grown at a rate of knots since Bain Capital first acquired Italian tyre wholesaler Fintyre in the first quarter of 2017. At the time, Bain Capital Private Equity managing director Ivano Sessa stated his confidence in Fintyre’s “substantial growth potential both organically and through consolidation in a fragmented Italian and European tyre distribution market,” and later on the private equity fund put its money where its mouth was.

Nexen Tire opens central R&D facility

Nexen Tire has a new R&D hub – the Nexen Central Research Institute, or Nexen univerCITY. Located in the Magok Industrial Complex in Seoul, South Korea, the 57,000 square metre facility will act as a research and development hub for Nexen Tire’s centres in the USA, Europe and China. More than 300 people attended an official opening ceremony for the Nexen univerCITY late last month.

Partnership to aid rollout of Black Bear carbon black recovery technology

MMEC Mannesmann GmbH (MMEC), a global leader in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and Black Bear, the Dutch tyre to carbon black upcycling company, today announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the rollout of Black Bear’s technology to produce recovered Carbon Black (rCB) from end-of-life tyres.

Prometeon amends & extends senior financing

Prometeon Tyre Group has signed an agreement for the amendment, restatement and extension of its 600 million euro senior financing, underwritten in March 2017, originally with a three-year duration. The new agreement allows the extension of the final maturity to March 2021 (with the possibility to further extend it to March 2022 at Prometeon’s discretion) at conditions in line with the current market. By signing the agreement Prometeon says it has secured the financial resources for the implementation of its 2019-2021 business plan.

GRI and Al Dobowi launch strategic partnership

A new strategic business partnership between Al Dobowi and GRI has been set up to facilitate the distribution of the GRI off-highway tyre brand in Middle Eastern and African markets. The partnership was officially launched at a function in Dubai on 29 April.

Italmatic introduces new-generation Italsensor TPMS solution

Tyre repair material and tyre pressure monitoring system specialist Italmatic has launched its latest generation of aftermarket TPMS solution. With the Italsensor 3.0evo, Italmatic aims to “raise the standards in the TPMS aftermarket.” Italsensor 3.0evo is suitable for use with 99 per cent of the European car parc and is programmable through most popular tools, including ATEQ.

Hankook Tire expands European motorsport engagement

For the past eight years, Hankook Tire has acted as exclusive tyre partner for the DTM touring car series. This year, the tyre maker is complementing its DTM commitment with involvement in four further championships – the Formula Renault Eurocup, Belcar Series, Mini Challenge Italia and the new, all-female W Series.

Gulf Air selects Michelin as tyre partner

Bahraini national airline Gulf Air has announced its selection of Michelin to equip every aircraft type within its fleet with tyres. Michelin’s supply to Gulf Air includes fitment on its new fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, Airbus 320neo and Airbus 321neo planes.
