Tyres, wheels & European expansion – GB Tyres at TTC

When we caught up with GB Tyres on the final day of The Tire Cologne, Graham Hutchinson was very satisfied with the three-day event. The commercial director was impressed by the strong international mix of visitors and reported meeting and talking business with people from countries where GB Tyres isn’t currently active. These contacts may open new doors for the UK-based firm’s own Aerotyre tyre brand as well as for the Challenger truck tyre range, which GB Tyres exclusively distributes in Europe.

Matthew Cabe next President & CEO of Michelin North America

Michelin has named Matthew Cabe as president and chief executive officer of Michelin North America, effective 1 October 2024. He succeeds Alexis Garcin; Michelin says it will announce Garcin’s next position within Michelin “at a later date.”

Too many uncertainties – Geneva International Motor Show postponed indefinitely

Uncertainties in the automotive industry and declining interest in major European shows are the writing on the wall that spell out the end for the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS). The Board of the Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile Foundation announced today that it will seek approval to dissolve the Foundation. President Alexandre de Senarclens noted the lack of manufacturer interest and competition from other shows as key factors.

Kirkby & BKT Tires publish Earthmax case study

Kirkby Tyres, in collaboration with BKT Tires, has developed a comprehensive case study on Brookland Sand & Aggregates Ltd, an independent, family-run business located in Cornwall. They threw the spotlight on the performance of BKT Earthmax tyres in quarry applications.

Goodyear expands Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 range

New additions to the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 tyre line will enable it to cater to a wider range of vehicles. This move aligns with the projected growth in demand for all-season tyres in Europe, positioning Goodyear to strengthen its market presence. The extension introduces 29 new sizes, with 17 of these being for 19-inch and larger rim diameters.

Goodyear appoints Nicole Gray SVP & CHRO

Gary VanderLind will soon retire from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and the company has appointed Nicole Gray to succeed him as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Gray will take on this remit from 1 July 2024.

Silk Road Fund sells 9% Pirelli shareholding

China’s Silk Road Fund has sold its entire stake in Pirelli through an accelerated placement procedure. According to a statement published by the Borsa Italiana stock exchange this morning, the economic development fund has divested some 90.2 million shares, which represents a 9.02 per cent shareholding in Pirelli. Demand for the shares far exceeded supply, and MTP/Camfin have reportedly purchased shares equal to 2.2 per cent of Pirelli’s capital.

Temporary layoffs scheduled for Nokian Heavy Tyres employees

Nokian Heavy Tyres Ltd. has completed negotiations concerning the employees at its factory in Nokia, Finland. The negotiating parties have agreed that all employees at the Nokian Heavy Tyres plant in Nokia, around 160 people in total, can be temporary laid off for a maximum period of 90 days per person.

JK Tyre investing in additional production capacities

During a recent earnings call, JK Tyre & Industries’ managing director, Anshuman Singhania, shared that the company is investing Rs 14 billion (£131.76 million) to increase its production capacities for TBR, PCR and ASLTR (all-steel light truck radial) tyres. He commented that these projects are “under implementation and progressing well.”

Pirelli holds shareholders’ meeting

Pirelli & C. SpA held its Shareholders’ Meeting on 28 May. The meeting took place at Studio Marchetti in Milan and was attended by 88.26 per cent of the capital with voting rights, with participation through the Appointed Representative.

Continental RDT-Master a Caterpillar OE option

Non-tyre revenue to exceed 20% of Michelin total by 2030

Michelin held its Capital Markets Day yesterday at its Research & Development Headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The company reported achieving its 2023 targets and presented updated 2030 ambitions, including the aim to grow non-tyre activities to over 20 per cent of total revenue.

Audi Sport has selected Pirelli as exclusive tyre partner for the Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years. The anniversary edition of the sports estate car offers two tyre options: Pirelli P Zero Corsa as original equipment, and a specific track kit consisting of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres with Cyber technology, combined with Pirelli’s Track Adrenaline system, both in 275/30R20 size.
