Magna Tyres Group has expanded its global footprint with the purchase of South African tyre dealer network Tirepoint. With this acquisition, Magna Tyres’ global workforce stands at more than 700. The company has declined to disclose the transaction’s financial details.
Apollo Tyres Ltd. maintained its market share within Europe’s passenger car and light truck (PCLT) market in the three months to 31 December 2022 (Q3 FY2023) despite declining approximately 14 per cent year-on-year in this market. The tyre maker primarily attributes this negative growth to high channel inventory, a mild winter and the economic slowdown.
BMW Motorrad has selected the Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 as an original equipment tyre for the latest BMW S 1000 RR. The supersports bike will wear the S22 in size 120/70 ZR17 M/C (58W) at the front and size 190/55 ZR17 M/C (75W) at the rear.

Master Class of Racing (MCoR) is a new and – according to its promoter – “industry-changing” race series in the USA. Russia and its friends within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will soon extend the scope of anti-dumping duties applied to truck tyres from China to counter instances of duty avoidance. The EAEU’s Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) issued an announcement to this effect on 1 February 2023.

Announcing its 2022 financial results, Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) shares that its consolidated global sales reached an “all time high” last year. Sales increased 17.5% to KRW 8,394.2 billion (£5.6 billion, $6.9 billion). Operating profit rose 9.9% YoY, to KRW 705.7 billion (£468.2 million, $576.7 million).

This year Dunlop is launching a new sports touring tyre, the Sportmax Q-Lite. It says this tyre “combines hypersport-style performance with a high-mileage tread and improved handling,” a mix that makes Dunlop Sportmax Q-Lite suitable to “tackle the demands of daily riding on lightweight bikes” such as the 125cc and 250cc categories.
It may not produce motorcycle tyres, but Prometeon Tyre Group benefits from the exposure the Pirelli brand gains as top sponsor and tyre supplier to WorldSBK. Prometeon also took on WorldSBK official sponsorship in April 2022 and now seeks to further raise its profile amongst those who enjoy riding fast on two wheels by becoming co-title sponsor of the Yamaha WorldSBK team.
A new solid forklift tyre has entered the Galaxy range, and manufacturer Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (YOHT) says it developed this product “for the most demanding industrial and warehousing operations.” The Galaxy MFS 101 is already available in 31 SKUs and YOHT plans to release another 11 sizes by Q3 2023.
LUC is the latest product from German laser systems specialist 4Jet Group. Informing tyre makers of this new solution that replaces grinding-based mechanical reworking, 4Jet states that LUC utilises “digital, precise and touchless” post-processing to improve the uniformity of tyre beads.
