Continental tyres OE on Zeekr 001

Chinese vehicle manufacturer Zeekr has selected the Continental PremiumContact 6 as an original equipment tyre for the Zeekr 001. The electric saloon will wear the Continental tyre in size 265/40 R22 106V XL FR. By choosing Continental, Zeekr joins a growing number of vehicle manufacturers within the region. The tyre maker shares that in Asia-Pacific, nine of the ten highest-volume manufacturers of all-electric vehicles currently rely on Continental tyres for original equipment.

Hankook names Ahn & Lee Co-CEOs

A new era of leadership is taking shape at Hankook, the tyre maker tells us. This wind of change comes in the form of two new Co-CEOs, Jongseon Ahn and Sanghoon Lee. Hankook confirmed both in this role and appointed them Executive Directors following approvals given at its Annual General Meeting and Board of Directors meeting on 26 March.

Worrying times – SMMT reports 12th consecutive month of falling UK car production

UK car and commercial vehicle production declined -11.6% in February, to 82,178 units, according to figures released by the SMMT. Local plants turned out 10,787 fewer cars, vans, trucks, taxis, buses and coaches than in February 2024, with multiple factors at play, notably soft markets at home and overseas, model changeovers and plant restructuring.

Mutually beneficial relationship instead of tariffs – SMMT response to Trump announcement

Donald Trump’s second presidency has been anything but uneventful so far, and the automotive industry isn’t missing out on the excitement. The USA intends to impose tariffs of 25% on car and automotive parts imports from 2 April 2025, a measure that the SMMT calls “disappointing” but “not surprising”. The UK trade organisation calls upon the Trump government to consider alternate means of benefitting both British and American manufacturers.

Heuver Tyres expands warehousing at Netherlands site

Netherlands-based Heuver Tyres has completed the construction of its new warehouse in Hardenberg. With this 16,000 m² expansion, the wholesaler now has a total storage capacity of no less than 61,000 m² at its headquarters site. This enables Heuver to offer its customers an even wider range of stock, in addition to serving customers even faster and more efficiently.

Bridgestone sole tyre supplier to 5 EWC teams in 2025

This year’s FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) begins during the Easter weekend. Bridgestone will continue its supply of Battlax tyres to competing teams, but instead of acting as sole tyre supplier to three teams as in 2024 and preceding years, in 2025 Bridgestone will exclusively supply five teams. The newcomers are the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team and Kawasaki Webike Trickstar.

Goodyear Eagle turns 45

This year, Goodyear celebrates 45 years of its most recognisable ultra-high-performance tyre line, Goodyear Eagle. The tyre maker credits the latest model to bear the name – Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 – with being one of its best-sellers in Europe and Asia; Goodyear recently introduced this tyre in the Americas as well.

Nokian Tyres extends Electric Fit logo to sidewalls

To demonstrate that its tyres are equally suitable for electric and combustion engine vehicles, in summer 2023 Nokian Tyres debuted its ‘Electric Fit’ logo. Since then, it has featured this logo in promotional and point-of-sale material but, curiously, the logo didn’t appear on tyre sidewalls. This has changed with the launch of the Nokian Tyres Seasonproof 2.

Europe OE tyre sales down in February

Michelin has published its tyre market trends for February 2025. Based upon sell-in data from local industry associations as well as Michelin’s estimate of sales by non-member manufacturers, these figures show a significant downturn in European original equipment markets, both for passenger vehicle and for truck tyres.

Kumho Ecsta OE on VW Tiguan & Cupra Terramar

Kumho Tire has extended its original equipment business with Volkswagen Group with supply to the VW Tiguan and Cupra Terramar. It will deliver the Kumho Ecsta PS71 SUV for fitment on the Tiguan in sizes 215/65 R17 and 235/55 R18, while the Terramar will wear the PS71 in 235/55 R18.

Kumho – Auto Bild test result reflects innovation commitment throughout lifecycle

Kumho Tyre is well pleased with the ‘exemplary’ rating its Kumho Ecsta PS71 gained in the Auto Bild 2025 summer tyre test. It earned the motoring publication’s top rating when tested in size 225/40R18, finishing joint fourth from a total of 52 candidates. Auto Bild particularly praised the Ecsta PS71 for its outstanding performance in dry and the best result in wet conditions.

Motorrad tests 6 enduro, sport touring & off-road tyres

Motorcycling magazine Motorrad has published the first part of its spring 2025 tyre test, and this ends with an outcome that seems contradictory at first glance. In this product comparison, six testers scrutinised six different tyres for BMW GS motorcycles, using six identical BMW R 1300 GS bikes. So far, so good. But while each tester ultimately chose a different tyre as their personal favourite, the magazine did not announce six winners. Instead, Motorrad’s overall ratings ranged from ‘very good’ to ‘satisfactory’. How can this be?

Russian car tyre market stable in 2025, forecasts Cordiant

The CEO of the Cordiant Group of Companies anticipates that Russia’s passenger tyre market will remain stable in 2025. Vadim Volodin shared with the newspaper Kommersant his expectation that “the market will remain at the level of last year.” This flatness follows growth of 23 per cent in 2024, to 56.4 million passenger tyres. Cordiant’s share of this was 13 per cent.
