Allocate work in seconds thanks to intuitive TechMan parts and data integrations

Workshop management specialist, TechMan has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes for garages to book a new job into the workshop thanks to a raft of intuitive features and innovative vehicle data integrations. The booking-in process, which would traditionally require a conversation with a technician to determine the amount of time required and a motor factor phone call to order the parts, can now be completed in less than a minute thanks to the TechMan Garage Management System.

Tyre policy guarantee pays off for Bulmans

Bulmans Bulk & Haulage is specifying Michelin tyres as original equipment on all new trucks, and as replacements across its truck and trailer fleet, after reaping the benefits offered by Michelin’s accidental tyre damage guarantee. The customer, which is a FORS bronze member, operates approximately 60 DAF tractor units and 70 trailers, fitting 315/80 R 22.5 X Multi Z and D tyres on its steer and drive axles respectively, and 235/75 R 17.5 X Multi T2 fitments on the mid-lift. All Fruehauf trailers benefit from a 385/65 R22.5 X Multi T replacement tyre policy – which offers versatility and longevity in all seasons.

NMDA keen to get apprenticeships back on the agenda

The NMDA will discuss standards for the motorcycle technician apprenticeship at a virtual meeting in August for dealer members. The association wants to ensure the programme remains relevant and up to date. “Following a turbulent 2020, the NMDA is keen to get apprenticeships back at the forefront of our agenda”, said Paddy O’Connell, head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA).

Hyundai Motorsport names Liqui Moly as Customer Racing Official Supplier

Hyundai Motorsport has named Liqui Moly as an Official Supplier for the Customer Racing department’s race and rally projects. The German oil and additive specialist delivers more than 80 products to the Hyundai workshop in Alzenau (Germany). There, they are used to configure and prepare the vehicles.

Sizeable minority of Britons reject electric cars, survey shows

The car industry faces strong resistance from much of the British public in its drive to persuade us to buy electric vehicles, a nationally representative survey has found. Digital pollsters Findoutnow.co.uk asked nearly 5,500 people: Would you consider an electric car for your next purchase/lease? Fewer than 2 per cent said they owned one already, while more than 38 per cent offered a flat “no”. Less than half (45.5 per cent) answered “yes”.

RMI Academy of Automotive Skills opening new site in Lincoln

The RMI Academy of Automotive Skills is opening a new training facility in Lincoln to broaden the reach of its high-quality automotive training. The new site joins three existing locations in Southam, Runcorn and Winchester, and is the first of a number of additional academies planned as part of the trade body’s wider strategy to provide training for garages on a more local basis. A wide array of MOT and technical courses will be available when the site opens in July.

NFDA welcomes What Car?’s findings on franchised dealers’ trustworthiness

“It is extremely positive that consumers continue to see franchised dealers as the most trustworthy place to buy their next used car; these findings indicate the crucial role that franchised dealers play in the buying process alongside the significant growth of online sales”, said Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle dealers in the UK commenting on the findings published by What Car? today, 26 May 2021.

NBRA to meet Small Business Commissioner to discuss review of contract terms

The Office of Small Business has agreed to meet with The National Body Repair Association (NBRA), to discuss steps to encourage motor insurers to review their repair contracts with vehicle body repair shops with more reasonable timeframes. Many NBRA members who provide car body, scratch, dent and other repair services to motorists across the UK, experienced a significant decline in demand for their services due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Virtual event focuses on apprentices’ mental wellbeing

During Mental Health Awareness Week which ran from 10 to 16 May 2021, Drive My Career announced a new “Supercharged” virtual event which will take place on 9 June 2021 to support apprentices’ mental health and wellbeing. The session follows the success of the first “Driving Inclusivity in Automotive” event held in December 2019 in partnership with dealer group Lookers. External speakers from Babcock International, Ben, the automotive charity, Lookers and the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) will be covering a number of issues related to apprentices’ wellbeing.

GS Yuasa celebrate 40 years of battery production in South Wales

Since being established 40 years ago in 1981, GS Yuasa Battery Manufacturing UK Ltd has produced over 85 million batteries at their Ebbw Vale production facility, employing over 360 skilled workers from around the local area to do so. Initially established as Yuasa Battery UK Ltd, the company name changed to GS Yuasa Battery Manufacturing UK Ltd in 2017 as part of the global roll out of the parent company name from Japan. The factory is located near the Brecon Beacons, and 30 miles from the Welsh capital Cardiff. Since being established in 1981, it has become a mainstay of the Rassau Industrial Estate on which it is based.
