Denso Europe celebrates 50 years

February 2023 marked a significant milestone in the history of original equipment (OE) component manufacturer and system supplier Denso, as it is 50 years since the company opened its first regional headquarters in continental Europe and Denso Europe was established. “The European business began in the Netherlands in 1973, with a workforce of just five,” explains Denso Europe, pan European strategic marketing manager, Fatiha Laauich, “but by 1987, it had grown substantially with the addition of a new facility to remanufacture starters and alternators for Toyota.”

UK car dealer networks and their relationships with OEMs are improving – survey

The National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), which represents franchised car and commercial vehicle retailers in the UK, has conducted its Dealer Attitude Survey twice a year since 1989, to better understand the relationship between car manufacturers and dealers. “Despite growing discussions and developments between franchised dealers and OEMs, around the future of the automotive retailing landscape, the latest Dealer Attitude Survey reveals a positive outlook and that, on average, relationships have improved over the last six months”, said Sue Robinson, chief executive of the NFDA, commenting on the results of the latest Dealer Attitude Survey Winter 2022/2023 published Monday 20 March 2023.

Ring launches new cordless tyre inflator

To complement its cordless tyre inflator range, lighting and accessory company Ring has introduced the RTC4000 to fill a gap in the market for a compact, yet powerful and high-quality cordless tyre inflator for cars and motorbikes. The RTC4000 is easily chargeable via a USB Type C cable or 12V DC cable and is quick to inflate a tyre, even from flat, making this product an easy sell for retailers and reassures drivers if they go back to their vehicle and the tyre is flat, there’s an easy solution.

LEVC Celebrates 10,000th vehicle

LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) is celebrating the significant milestone of producing its 10,000th vehicle at its state-of-the-art factory in Ansty, Coventry, UK. LEVC has manufactured the TX – described by the company as “the world’s most advanced electric taxi” – at its groundbreaking facility since 2017. Since the first TX taxi was delivered in January 2018 in London, 10,000 vehicles have now been built and sold throughout multiple global markets, from Paris to Madrid, Cairo to Tokyo.

Mitas expands Sport Force+ RS tyre range

Mitas is expanding its Sport Force+ RS tyre range with the addition of larger sizes. The new 120/70 ZR17, 180/55 ZR17 and 190/55 ZR17 sizes expand the range to a total of six fitments and are expected to hit the market in April 2023.

First MOT date extension to increase tyre-related road safety risk

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), which represents more than 90,000 automotive professionals, has conducted in-depth analysis of MOT data to formulate what it calls a “considered and balanced response” to the Department for Transport’s MOT Consultation. Working with Garage Industry Trends to examine root causes in current patterns of MOT failure, the IMI analysis provides clear evidence that extending the date for the first MOT will significantly increase road user risk.

More than half of motorists think petrol, diesel cars are cheaper to run than EVs

A new poll by car insurer NFU Mutual found that over half of motorists think petrol and diesel cars are now cheapest to run. As the cost of electricity rises, just 18 per cent thought a fully electric vehicle would be cheaper, while 11 per cent said a plug-in hybrid would be cheapest. This is in stark contrast to last year, when a survey found 57 per cent said cheaper running costs were an incentive to switch to electric vehicles (EVs). However, motor experts at NFU Mutual show EVs are still significantly cheaper to run when charged economically and have many other cost benefits too.

February UK new car market marks seventh straight month of growth

UK new car registrations grew by 26.2 per cent in February as 74,441 new cars joined Britain’s roads, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). While February is typically low volume ahead of the March plate change, this year it marked the seventh month of consecutive growth as easing supply chain shortages steered the market closer to pre-pandemic levels, down just -6.5 per cent on the same month in 2020.

Liqui Moly renews Formula 1 sponsorship for 2023 season

German motor oil manufacturer Liqui Moly has signed a one-year contract with the Formula 1 racing series. This means that the company will be sponsoring the series for the fifth consecutive year. The new contract, means Liqui Moly will be an “Official Partner” of Formula 1 for the 2023 season, with trackside signage, both physical and virtual, bearing the brand name on display worldwide at 18 of 23 races this year. “Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport in terms of international character and publicity”, says Günter Hiermaier, managing director of Liqui Moly.

Juratek renews sponsorship with Árón Taylor-Smith for BTCC in 2023

Braking brand Juratek has announced it will once again be sponsoring multiple British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) winner, Árón Taylor-Smith, continuing their partnership into the 2023 season. £15m government funding to recycle critical minerals

Tonnes of rare earth elements – essential for technology such as electric vehicles, wind turbines and smart phones – could be recycled in future thanks to £15 million of government funding for cutting-edge research to strengthen supply of critical materials. Rare earth elements are a family of critical minerals used in a wide range of products, ranging from laptops to aircraft. But supply chains are complex and markets are volatile, with most critical minerals sourced from just a handful of countries. This leaves UK jobs and industries vulnerable to market shocks and geopolitical events, which is why the government is working to help UK firms establish resilient and sustainable access to critical minerals.

Tevva, Ecobat sign up for battery management pilot scheme

British electric vehicle manufacturer Tevva has entered into a strategic partnership with Ecobat, a global leader in battery recycling, for the repair, repurposing and recycling of its lithium-ion batteries. The partnership kicks off with a 12-month pilot phase for first-life battery management, with the opportunity to expand into additional energy storage and recycling solutions.

Sumitomo Rubber Group supports earthquake relief efforts

Falken’s parent company, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. (SRI) and Sumitomo Rubber AKO Lastik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (SAT) will provide relief supplies worth a total of 10 million Yen (equivalent to approx. 70,000 Euro) to the victims and those who are affected by the devastating earthquake that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria. The relief supplies consist of tents, sleeping bags and blankets worth 5 million yen (equivalent approx. 35,000 Euro) from SRI and groceries worth 5 million yen (equivalent to approx. 35,000 Euro) from SAT.
