Record sales revenue for Banner Group

Banner’s latest financial report serves to highlight the positive impact its ‘Agenda 2030’ Corporate Development Strategy is having on the Group performance as one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of automotive batteries and battery accessories. Despite having faced challenges in regard to costs and supply chain issues, Banner has posted a record sales revenue for its 2022/23 financial year (1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023). Having enjoyed a more than 7 per cent increase in sales revenue, standing at EUR 307 million, Banner’s sales of starter batteries totalled 4.1 million.

BorgWarner to acquire Eldor Corporation’s Electric Hybrid Systems business segment

BorgWarner Inc. and Eldor Corporation S.p.A. have announced that they have entered into a Share Purchase Agreement under which BorgWarner has agreed to acquire the Electric Hybrid Systems (EHS) business segment of Eldor for €75 million at closing with a potential additional amount due subject to an earnout.

European 2023 car sales set to rebound from 2022 low – Bloomberg Intelligence

European new-car sales rose 17 per cent in May – a 10th straight month of growth – thanks to a 13.3 per cent year-earlier decline and pent-up demand, finds a new report from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI). This is driven by easy year-earlier comparisons, fewer supply-chain hurdles and pent-up demand.

Mitas introduces Custom Force tyre line into Brazilian market

Custom Force tyres will be on display for the first time in Brazil at São Paolo’s Festival Interlagos, along with other Mitas flagship lines for on-road, adventure and off-road riding. 80,000 visitors are expected at the annual Festival Interlagos from June 22-25 in São Paolo, with Mitas Ambassadors Rigor Rico and Marcelo Silverio in attendance.

Transaid announces 2024 Cycle Kenya Challenge

Transaid is returning to Africa for its 11th cycle challenge on the continent and is calling on keen riders to take part in a six-day, 474km ride across majestic Kenya – where Transaid is currently undertaking a major project funded by the FIA Foundation. Taking place from 4 – 13 October 2024, the international development organisation invites riders from across the transport and logistics industry on this one-of-a-kind adventure, where they’ll travel from Nyeri at the foothills of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria – all on two wheels.

Honda and GS Yuasa sign JV agreement to establish new company

Honda and GS Yuasa have signed a joint venture agreement toward the establishment of a new company. As announced on January 23, 2023, the two companies have been discussing specifics for collaboration on high-capacity, high-output lithium-ion batteries, mainly for EVs. To address the rapidly-growing demand for batteries, the new joint venture company, which will be named Honda・GS Yuasa EV Battery R&D Co, Ltd, will research and develop lithium-ion batteries and battery production methods that will be highly competitive at a global level. Moreover, the new company will strive to establish a supply chain for key raw materials and a highly-efficient production system for its batteries.

Banner to expand in Chinese market

As part of its ‘Agenda 2030’ corporate development strategy, Banner has taken the decision to establish a major presence in China. Representing an opportunity to realise significant sales penetration in what is one of the world’s largest markets, Banner has signed a licensing agreement with leading battery manufacturer, LEOCH.

May van sales buoyant as supply pressures ease

The number of UK light commercial vehicles (LCVs) registered in the UK grew by 15.3 per cent in May compared with last year, reaching 25,359 units, according to the latest SMMT figures. It represents the fifth consecutive month of rising deliveries as the market rebounds from a tough 2022 as supply chain challenges continue to ease, although registrations remain -13.0 per cent below the pre-pandemic 2019 level.

Tenth month of growth for UK new car market

The UK new car market has posted its longest uninterrupted period of expansion for eight years, as registrations grew 16.7 per cent in May to reach 145,204 units, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The performance marks 10 consecutive months of growth, although registrations remain -21.0 per cent below pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Dayco brand debuts at Motor China 2023

Engine products and drive systems supplier for the automotive, industrial and aftermarket industries, Dayco, supplies original equipment components to manufacturers from around the world. From 19-22 May 2023, the Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition was held in the China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) and Dayco, alongside more than 260 OEMs from several countries and regions, including the United States, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, Spain and South Korea, participated exhibiting more than 500 new motorcycle models, of which over 15 models were not only shown for the first time in China, but anywhere in the world.

NFDA’S Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) hits landmark of 500 accredited retailers across the UK

Commenting on the news that the NFDA Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) scheme has reached the milestone of 500 accredited dealer sites since its launch in 2019, Sue Robinson chief executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) which represents car and commercial retailers across the UK, said: “It is extremely positive to see that the automotive retailing sector has embraced the EVA scheme.

France’s first EV battery factory opens

Following the news that France has opened its first electric vehicle battery factory in Billy-Berclau in the northern region of the country, Sumit Das, senior analyst, Automotive at GlobalData, says: “France’s first EV battery gigafactory will provide a base to step up the production of batteries and electric vehicles as the European Union has set a 2035 deadline to phase out the sale of new fossil fuel cars.”

Used EV values could fall further, VRA meeting is told

Used electric vehicle (EV) values could fall by a further 5-10% in the next few months, the latest Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA) member meeting was told. Giving a presentation on market trends for different fuel types, Dean Bowkett of Bowkett Consulting said there continued to be an imbalance between used EV supply and demand, despite recent dramatic falls in value.
