Yokohama Geolandar tyres OE on new Mazda CX-90

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. is supplying its Geolandar X-CV tyres as original equipment (OE) for Mazda Motor Corporation’s new crossover SUV, the Mazda CX-90, sales of which were launched in the United States in April 2023. The CX-90, which is not being sold in Yokohama’s home Japanese market, is being fitted with 265/55 R19 109V tyres.

Toyo Tyres UK presents new Open Country A/T III

Toyo has introduced its Open Country A/T III to the UK market, stating that it is “ready for anything road surfaces and weather conditions can throw at it.”

General Tires supports BBL slam-dunk competition

At the start of May, General Tire helped the British Basketball League reach new heights, literally. At the top of London’s iconic O2 arena, Leicester Riders star Blake ‘The Showman’ Bowman took the limelight, recreating eight iconic dunks – one for each team in the post-season.

40% of drivers can’t check tread depth – eBay

Over a third of UK drivers (40%) cannot confidently carry out a tyre tread check, according to new research by automotive marketplace eBay. The research, commissioned by eBay UK and conducted by Toluna, surveyed 2020 total respondents with driver’s licences carried out by Toluna in April 2023, found that more than half (53%) of 18 – 34-year-olds don’t know how to check that their tyre tread is within the legal limit. Apparently, older generations also lack confidence when it comes to tread depth checks, with more than a third of 35-54 year-olds revealing the same knowledge gap.

New Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain A/T002 tyre claims 40% better mileage

The new Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain A/T002 offers “improved adaptation and reaction over different types of terrain, excellent wet and dry grip, and improved mileage” based on internal benchmarks comparing the new tyre with its predecessor, the Dueler A/T001 in 265/65 R17. Specifically, that means 40 per cent better mileage compared with the Dueler A/T001, due to the tyre’s maximised footprint width and optimised contact patch.

YOHT adds Galaxy OTR tyre SKUs

Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (YOHT) has added to the total range of SKUs to its Galaxy MFS 101 SDS range. The recently-introduced Galaxy MFS 101 SDS is described as “a new generation of solid, heavy-duty tyres for forklifts that are operated under the most demanding industrial and warehousing conditions.”

Pirelli wins Jaguar Land Rover ‘Supplier of Excellence’ Award

Pirelli has been honoured as a winner at the prestigious Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Supplier of Excellence Awards. The ceremony, held in the UK at The Grove in Hertfordshire and hosted by television personality Gabby Logan, took place for the seventh year to celebrate the exceptional achievements of suppliers and their extraordinary contribution to JLR’s business over the course of the last year.

Editorial: Dawn of a new era

As the June edition of Tyres & Accessories went to press, the UK celebrated the coronation of a new monarch. Tyres & Accessories marked the occasion too, as this special coronation edition demonstrates from its cover celebratory onwards. And, if NTDA HQ’s announcement about taking coronation day off to celebrate, paired with the association’s encouragement that tyre retailers from across the UK should do the same is anything to go by, we certainly weren’t the only ones.

GRI Green XLR Earth field tested in Germany

GRI’s recently launched Green XLR Earth Series has been undergoing field testing in Germany for the last 6 months. The manufacturer also refers to testing in “other European countries”. According to the company, the tyres contain 78.6 per cent sustainable material, including pure natural rubber sustainably sourced from Sri Lankan rubber farmers. Other input materials include: recycled carbon black, reclaimed rubber, highly dispersible silica, soybean oil and bio-sourced cellulose fibres. The use of bio-sourced soybean oil, combined with next-generation HD Silica, reportedly improves fuel economy and extends tyre life.

Pro-Align now under sole ownership

Following the retirement of two of its founding directors, Paul and Kathryn Beaurain – who retire after more than 30 years, Pro-Align is now under sole ownership. Established in 1990, husband and wife paring Paul and Kathryn Beaurain founded Pro-Align alongside Philip Wylie, who will continue as the company’s sole owner, utilising his extensive automotive industry and investment banking experience.

Pirelli: No board nominations presented, proposal to defer nominations coming

Pirelli & C. S.p.A has announced that, as of the 5 June 2023 deadline for the presentation of Board of Directors nominations lists ahead of the 29 June 2023, no lists were submitted by the shareholders. In other words, board nominations have been put on hold until after the conclusion of the Golden Power Procedure.

First 16 dealers join Prometeon Supertruck in the UK

Prometeon Tyre Group has launched its new SuperTruck UK network to supply its branded tyres alongside tailored maintenance and audit services for truck fleet operators. SuperTruck was first launched in Italy in 2019 and is successfully rolling out to six other European markets: Poland, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland. According to the company, Prometeon UK has been working with an initial 16 tyre dealers to tailor their product offering and services in line with the company’s SuperTruck initiative designed uniquely to support the needs of truck fleet operators.
