Kirkby Tyres, purportedly the largest importer and distributor of off-highway tyres in the UK and Ireland, reports that it is expanding following the acquisition of a new ten-acre site. The new site is situated alongside the company’s current headquarters in Liverpool, UK and features a 200,000 square foot warehouse, according to the company.

As this June edition of Tyres & Accessories went to press, we were all preparing for The Tire Cologne. Lauded as Europe’s leading tyre exhibition, the 2024 show will be an undoubtedly international event (see next month’s July issue for the review of what took place). Within Tire Cologne’s international remit, Tyres & Accessories understands that a number of well-known as well as up-and-coming Far Eastern manufacturers will be present this year. Since China is the world’s largest producer of tyres by unit volume, and in order to catch up with developments that have taken place post-Covid, T&A recently spent time in China meeting with numerous domestic and international tyremakers there.
The percentage of company cars being fitted with 18 inch-plus tyres has increased by a third in three years, new data released by epyx shows.
In the first quarter of 2021, 42 per cent of cars fitted with tyres through the business’s TyreServe service were 18 inches or over. This increased to 47 per cent in for the same period in 2022, 52 per cent in 2023 and 56 per cent in 2024.
With China’s biggest online tyre retailer, Tuhu, having gone public at the beginning of this year, and with that firm alone generating annual sales of 13.6 billion yuan (£1.476 billion; 1.732 billion euros; $1.878 billion), the recent livestream panel discussion that took place between Tyres & Accessories and Car & Tire in China moved on to the similarities and differences between the online tyre business in the UK and Europe compared with China. The discussed touched on subjects including direct retail, pre-sale research and social media.
The 14th China (Guangrao) International Rubber Tire and Auto Accessory Exhibition ran from 15-17 May and reportedly achieved some record-breaking results. Exhibition area reached 52,000 square metres, and the three-day exhibition attracted more than 780 exhibitors from the tyre industry.

Event attendees will be able hear from Bosch experts in two key areas: Automated Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and their solution to access protected vehicle data: Secure Diagnostic Access (SDA).
Orion S.A. is investing in Alpha Carbone, a French tyre recycling company. According to the announcement made in mid-May, the partnership will enable Alpha Carbone to scale up and produce commercial volumes of tyre pyrolysis oil and recovered carbon black.
Pitched as “a tribute to the tradition of British craftsmanship and innovation”, Trelleborg has introduced the high-quality agricultural, material handling and construction wheels made at its Trelleborg Wheel Factory in Lydney, UK. According to the company, each wheel represents a “seamless fusion of tradition and cutting-edge technology, meticulously crafted to surpass industry standards”.
The Dongying, Shandong Province-based Huasheng Group is planning to add a Cambodia tyre production plant to its portfolio of five factories. While there are few details at the moment, the even-lower-than-Chinese production costs paired with the company’s desire to increase tyre export sales are said to be the main motivations behind the move. Tyres & Accessories met company representatives during the recent GuangRao Tire and Rubber Auto Accessory Exhibition, which took place between 15 and 17 May in Dongying where the company had no less than five generously proportioned stands exhibiting its range of car, 4×4, light truck as well as truck and bus tyres.
Davanti Tyres reports that it will be appearing at The Tire Cologne in June with its “biggest stand yet”. Referring to the exhibiting as “the world’s leading trade fair for the tyre industry”, Davanti representatives report plans to use the event as an opportunity to host partners and explore new distribution leads. At the same time, Davanti Tyres will be showcasing “a wide range of products including all-season, winter, high performance and commercial tyres”.
