The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) ‘Briefing Day’ is back following the pandemic-related hiatus. The 2023 event will be held on Wednesday 13 September 2023 at the Woodland Grange Hotel, Leamington Spa. The agenda features “high quality briefings on all the current market and regulatory trends from…expert presenters”.
Prometeon Tyre Group is exhibiting at the Road Transport Expo [RTX] 2023 at NAEC Stoneleigh from 28-30 June. Stand GR37a, Hall 2a will feature the improved Serie 02 range of tyres and the Prometeon team will also be demonstrating their Pro Service solutions and the company’s UK SuperTruck network.
There are many changes in our latest leading tyre manufacturers ranking. The 2023 table, which lists the world’s leading tyre companies according to their full-year 2022 financial results, particularly highlights the shifts that have taken place this year in the second half of the top 20. Meanwhile, the top nine tyremakers appear to be an increasingly stable group. Between places nine and 10, there is still a gap of some 1 billion euros, something that is clearly hard to overcome for newcomers. However, as insurmountable as it appears, the gap is obviously narrowing.
It has not been the best 12 months for Goodyear or its employees. 2023 might mark the company’s 125th anniversary, but the combination of already-announced global job cuts, European manufacturing restructuring and ongoing cost-cutting operations mean that for many individual workers it may be their last (see page 14 of the June print edition onwards of complete coverage).

After more than 57 years in the tyre business including two decades as Tyrenet managing director, Mike Riley has announced his retirement effective 30 June 2023. Announcing the news, Tyrenet representatives highlighted how Riley’s contributions have been “integral to the success of Tyrenet”, adding: “Mike will continue to play a strategic role in the company as chairman, moving from the daily operations to overseeing and influencing the future growth of Tyrenet.”

Following a four-year absence, Automechanika Birmingham is reporting a record number of UK automotive professionals attended the 2023 show at the start of June. The 14,402 visitors figure was an increase of 19 per cent on the 2019 show. The total of 6750 garages, workshops and bodyshops, was also a record. A total of 511 suppliers from 23 countries – including key leading brands exhibited.
Qingdao Sentury Tire Co. Ltd. has received the regulatory approval to invest US$296.78 million in the construction of its previously announced Morocco tyre manufacturing project. The “Certificate of Overseas Investment of Enterprises” was issued by the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Commerce on 5 June 2023 and is valid for two years.
