ETRMA Members formally approved the application of Toyo Tires to become a full Member of the Association as of 1 January 2024 during ETRMA’s 9 November board meeting.
A years after opening Pirelli’s Digital Solutions Center in Bari is celebrating its first year of activity increasing its workforce to 80, up from the planned headcount of 50. Currently, Pirelli’s digital centre, which is run as a public-private-academic partnership totals 30 employees, mainly from the Apulia region. Repeated loss-making quarterly results paired with global cost-cutting and headcount-reduction efforts throughout 2023 mean Goodyear has, understandably, received more attention than usual. Not only does such an opportunity give Goodyear the right-to-reply, it also provides additional insights into the company’s current “transformation” plans. Indeed, that is where our discussion began, with David Anckaert explaining what is meant by transformation in EMEA.
Prometeon Tyre Group UK has appointed Ilke Bor as the new marketing manager for the UK, Eire and Nordics effective from 1 December 2023. Bor will be responsible for the company’s marketing strategy and plans to “continue to build market share and sales for Prometeon’s premium brand tyres across the region”. The development of Prometeon’s SuperTruck network will be a key focus of Bor’s work.
Ascenso Tyres entered the UK market in early 2021. Now there’s a new Ascenso UK website which showcases all the off-the-road tyres available across the brand’s range, including agricultural tyres, construction and industrial tyres, earthmover tyres, material handling tyres and forestry tyres.
On 9 November, ETRMA Members elected Chris Delaney of Goodyear as president of the association for a two-year term of office starting on 1 January 2024. Chris Delaney is president EMEA of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and currently serves on the board of ETRMA. Dr Ralf Holschumacher of the German Rubber Industry Association (WDK) was elected vice president at the meeting.
Continental has announced plans for 400 million euros of annual cost-savings in its Automotive sector by 2025. The aim is to “create leaner business and administrative structures worldwide as well as quicker decision-making processes”. And that means streamlining the organisational structure within Automotive from six to five business areas.
While the Tirebuyer.com name is not being phased out, across the Atlantic, Treadsy’s role as an online white-label solution for tyre retailers across North America is increasing as the solution seeks to maximise both the online presence and service offering of tyre retailers. The e-commerce tyre platform is already home to the US’s largest network of 18,000 tyre installation locations including mobile vans. Moving forward, the focus of the business will shift to “powering capabilities of others in tyre retailing”.
The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has welcomed the European Parliament Plenary vote on 10 November and the “progress made towards delivering meaningful tyre abrasion limits under the auspices of Euro 7”.
At the end of September, the list of Asia’s most influential brands of 2023 was published at the “Asia Brand Summit” in Hong Kong. A total of 500 brands from 20 countries and regions, were honoured at the 18th World Brand Lab summit themed “The Impact of New Technologies on Brand Transformation and Consumer Behavior.” Seven of them were tyre brands and all seven were ranked amongst the top 350 of the 500 honoured brands.
