Nexion agrees to buy Eagle SMF Distributors Pty Ltd
Nexion S.p.A., the holding company of the Nexion Group, has signed an agreement to acquire Eagle SMF Distributors Pty Ltd, that will be finalized “in the next weeks”. Following the acquisition, Eagle SMF will preserve the same current local management and service team to ensure “no change to the customer experience”.

TIA to host “Right to Repair Summit” at Global Tire Expo in Las Vegas
In the US, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) is hosting a “Right to Repair Summit,” on Monday, 4 November 2024, at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino. The Summit, scheduled from 14:30 to 16:00 in the Melrose 4 room, comes on the eve of the Global Tire Expo (GTE) and SEMA Show. Prior to the Summit, attendees are invited to a luncheon from 12:30 to 14:00 in the Melrose 3 room, which provides a pre-summit networking opportunity.

Continental recalls >146,000 car tyres and 100s of truck tyres in North America
Across the Atlantic, Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (Continental) is conducting two parallel recalls. The largest relates to Continental’s ProContact GX AO tyres. According to US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filings, centres on size 255/35R19 96H XL fitments of the tyre made between 9 May 2021 and 17 August 2024 and relates to potential belt separation issues. Continental reports that ProContact GX AO was mainly sold as an OE fitment for the Audi A4/A5. But approximately 10 per cent of the affected tyres were sold in the US replacement market. As many as 146,568 tyres are covered by the recall and Continental estimates that 100 per cent have the described defect.

GYS: Induction heating changing the tyre trade
Fast fit centres, garages, and large national chains are making the switch to induction technology, according to GYS. For years, oxy-gas flame methods were the standard for heating, but now, induction heating is said to be taking over. Induction heating offers numerous benefits over oxy-fuel, including “cost, efficiency, ease of use, and significant safety improvements”. For its part, GYS offers a wide range of technology-driven induction heaters, backed by “full commercial and technical support”.

Vredestein expands Hellendoorn rally brand partnership

HiQ: more than a third of tyres are worn past legal limit
New research conducted by HiQ Tyres & Autocare on tyre changes in the UK has found that drivers in some areas of the UK are allowing their tyres to wear beyond the legal limit, with more than a third of tyres are worn past legal limit.
