Point S, the international independent tyre dealer and car maintenance network, has announced positive results of third-party testing of its Summer tyre. The tests, which examined the safety, quality and performance of the product, were conducted by independent technical testing organisation, TÜV SÜD, which is internationally renowned for its impartial insight into the quality of products and brands.
Apollo Tyres has appointed Guido Boerkamp director of its Off-Highway Tyres (OHT) division. Boerkamp joined the company (then known as Vredestein) in 1995 as a product specialist for agricultural and industrial tyres. He subsequently worked as product manager, business development manager and head of product group, before leading Apollo Tyres’ European OHT R&D division. Boerkamp succeeds Ruud Nijland who is retiring after over a decade at the company in this position.
Maxam Tire has expanded its MS915 series of tyres for modern telehandlers and graders. The all-new 370/75-28 and 400/75-28 sizes were developed for demanding conditions where high-traction is required. Maxam has manufactured the MS915 to offer a rugged and long-lasting solution for challenging construction applications.
The 2022 TyreSafe Briefing will return as an in-person event on Thursday 7 July after two years of online presentations. St George’s Park in Burton Upon Trent, home of the National Football Centre, will host the briefing, featuring a high-profile line up of road safety stakeholders and tyre industry representatives who will deliver key information, demonstrations, and interactive exhibits. The event is open to pre-registered supporters and road safety stakeholders, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of dealers in the UK subscribed to open-access commercial tyre service app e-jobsheet has reached 60. The app connects dealers to several tyre manufacturers, allowing commercial tyre service providers to save administration time and money when conducting third party work. Dealers can also present their own direct fleet work to the highest standards.
Hankook has been certified S&P Global Gold Class in S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2022, making the tyre manufacturer one of the top companies in the US financial services provider’s ranking. Based on the S&P Dow Jones World Sustainability Index, the yearbook is regarded as one of the world’s foremost sustainability indices. Of the 7,554 companies evaluated for the 2022 yearbook, 75 received gold, 89 silver, and 106 bronze awards for outstanding achievement. In awarding the Philips RacingVision GT200 this accolade, Auto Express reported that bulb had scored highest for both the widest usable beam of light and for producing the brightest spot of light for the road ahead.
The manager of one of the latest independent garages to join the First Stop retail network is committed to creating the most welcoming customer environment in the industry, supported by an all-female front desk. Kim Dorr decided to embark on a career in the industry to dispel common stereotypes associated with garage forecourts after feeling intimidated and undermined when taking her car to the garage. She aimed to create a warm, welcoming environment at Northampton-based In Town Automotive, featuring a children’s play area, a screen showing live video updates of technicians’ work, and bunches of fresh flowers from the local florist. Now Dorr is heralding a new chapter for the centre as it gains national sales, marketing and purchasing support from the First Stop network.
Bush Tyres has expanded its Boston, Lincolnshire branch with four new service bays. The branch offers MOT testing for cars as well as Class 7 MOTs for vans and motorhome. The improvements to the branch include the installation of wider bays for improved access for larger vehicles. Bush has also installed an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Camera and Radar Calibration Service. The mechanical expansion means Bush Tyres Boston can offer products and services to the car, 4×4, SUV, and agricultural tyre segments, in addition to exhausts, batteries, brakes, wheel alignments, wheel balancing and suspension work.
Pirelli has introduced a new tyre, aimed specifically at road bikes. Named the P Zero Race 4S, it is the first 100 per cent made in Italy product since Pirelli’s return to the cycling arena since the company’s return to this market in 2017.
The first month of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has already revealed several consequences for mobility and the global tyre industry, as Tyrepress’s continuing coverage of the situation has shown. The resultant sanctions imposed on Russia by an international alliance and the response of multinational companies, at least 450 of which had scaled back their business in the country as of the publication of this article, will send reverberations around global economies. The tyre industry faces impacts on several fronts – higher fuel prices and further interruption to logistics chains and materials supply will have knock-on consequences for tyre sales that will unfold over the coming months. At nearly a month after the conflict began, tyre business analyst Astutus Research examines the immediate consequences for tyre manufacturing in Russia, as well as its neighbours Ukraine and Belarus. This analysis looks at the impact of events on the global manufacturers whose plants were collectively responsible for around 70 per cent of Russia’s passenger car and light truck (PCLT) output.
