Goodyear has announced the shipment of its seven millionth UltraGrip 8 in Europe making the tyre one of its all-time leading winter products. The tyre, which launched in 2011, is the most recent in the UltraGrip branded range first launched in 1971.
GT Radial has entered the growing multi-usage sector with the launch of the GSR225 Combi Road steer axle tyre. The tyre is initially available in size 295/80R22.5.

Pirelli’s UK customer golf day included an exciting guest spot from two-time Ryder Cup winner Francesco Molinari at The Wisley, a prestigious golf course in West Surrey, earlier this month. Pirelli is supporting the golfer throughout this season, and in an innovative piece of cross-promotion Molinari’s club grips are colour-coded to correspond to the different types of tyres used by Pirelli in Formula One.
Shinji Aoki, manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development Department, explains that the “rear slick tyre allocation we supplied for the Australian Grand Prix experienced extreme temperatures which affected their durability.” The race was reduced from 27 laps to 19, including an enforced pit stop at half way after Bridgestone data from practice showed the hard rear slick should do a maximum stint of 14 laps. The tyre supplier of the supporting Moto2 race Dunlop encountered similar issues, with its race also run over a reduced distance.

Pirelli has crowned British Rally Championship 2 winner Daniel McKenna its UK Star Driver honour ahead of five other finalists. During the two-day shootout at the Sweet Lamb motorsport complex in Wales, McKenna impressed a panel of five judges the most, winning a full, seven-round British Rally Championship campaign courtesy of the series’ tyre supplier. McKenna, from County Monaghan, will compete in a Citroen DS3 R3 supplied by DGM Motorsport.
Trelleborg Wheel Systems is preparing to present what it claims will be the largest agricultural tyre on the market in terms of footprint and tread width. The giant IF900/65R46 TM1000 High Power tyre will be available to view on the stand at Agritechnica between 10 and 16 November 2013 in Hannover, Germany.

Metzeler has enlisted some celebrity help to introduce its latest models at the Metzeler Legendary Knight, a free entrance and open bar event to be held on 5 November at Fonderia Napoleonica in the Motoquartiere of Milan. Aerosmith frontman and Dirico Motorcycles USA spokesman, Steven Tyler will unveil Metzeler’s custom touring ME 888 Marathon Ultra tyre in a Whitewall version and new 23” front size, while popular British rider Guy Martin will help the brand launch its new Sportec M7 RR supersport tyre.
Unusually for endurance racing, the latest round of the World Endurance Championship at Fuji saw qualifying become more important than any of the teams could have estimated. However, as rain and fog compromised race day, there was virtually no scope for changes in the order, Dunlop reports. The tyre manufacturer supplied tyres to the top five qualifiers, and as a result the #35 OAK Racing Morgan of Baguette, Plowman and Gonzalez leads the LMP2 Championship with two more stints of six hours to go.
Nokian’s WR D3 winter tyre has been “especially recommended”, scoring the top “good” rating, in German automobile club ADAC and consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest’s 2013 winter tyre test. The tyre was equally recommended by German car magazine Auto Motor Sport. The Finnish manufacturer and winter tyre specialist also received plaudits for its new WR SUV 3 tyre in two German SUV specialist titles.

The promotions will give Firestone customers an early opportunity to engage with the film, which features an ordinary garden snail who dreams of competing in the Indy 500. In Europe, where the movie has been screened in cinemas as of this month, Firestone has linked events with trade sell-in promotions and consumer sell-out incentives in several countries, including Spain, Denmark and eastern European markets.

Pirelli has launched two fitments for the recently launched Alfa Romeo 4C. The new 4C lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 8:04 on the P Zero Trofeo tyres – a new Alfa Romeo record – which were developed in less than a year of intense work between Pirelli and Alfa Romeo engineers. The car has the option of fitting 17” on the front and 18” on the back, or 18” on the front and 19” on the back.
