Retaining the global benchmark status was described as crucial by ATS Euromaster, as many of the largest public sector and private sector fleets view ISO 9001: 2008 as an essential status for suppliers to hold.

Falken Tire Corp., a unit of Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., will phase out the Ohtsu brand name for commercial tyres in the US market, Tire Review reports. US distribution of Ohtsu CV tyres, a fellow Sumitomo brand, was brought under the control of Falken Tire Corp. in 2009.
Polish supplier of storage systems for the tyre industry, Arcom has developed and installed a new flexible storage system at German tyre supplier, Heidenau. Arcom says the new project demonstrates the flexibility of its crates and stackable storage containers for tyres, in addition to its adaptability to the individual needs of each client.
Pirelli has become the first premium brand tyre manufacturer to confirm that it will exhibit at Brityrex International. Pirelli’s direct involvement represents a something of a coup for the British tyre market show, taking place at EventCity, Manchester on 7-9 October. While the show was able to attract Michelin Training Centre in 2012 – a returning exhibitor in 2014 – this year’s Brityrex is increasing its profile with both major and second-tier tyre brands, a fact that organiser SingEx-ECI expects will increase its appeal.

Pirelli’s Cinturato P7 Blue was unveiled to the tyre business at Reifen 2012, where a 17” size claimed the honour of becoming the first EU label rated AA product on the market. In a recent Autobild test of eight ecological summer tyres it was rated “exemplary” by the respected consumer automotive monthly.
The Michelin shod Audi Sport Team Joest and the Dunlop supplied Jota Sport teams were among the class winners at the 82nd Le Mans 24H. The race was won outright by the LM P1 class No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro was driven by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer – their third victory as a trio – in front of 263,300 spectators over the weekend of 14-15 June.

Aeolus has announced its membership of German tyre dealer association BRV. The Chinese brand says it will cooperate on bilateral work with the association. Wang Feng, general director of Aeolus Tyres said: “As a Chinese tyre manufacturer, we are particularly proud to become a sustaining member of the German association. We look forward to providing support for the regulations and the major tasks in this very important branch of the specialised trade within the scope of our capabilities.”
Groupauto has announced a reduction to the monthly membership fee for members of its Approved Garages network. The scheme has reported the creation of “approximately £2.5 million” of work for the 450-plus independent garages in the network. Membership offers free Motor Codes membership in addition to being part of a national network of RAC inspected garages.

With practice and qualification completed under significantly cooler conditions, a hotter Sunday forced Formula One’s teams to improvise when it came to tyre strategy at the Canadian grand prix. A safety car period, lasting eight laps right at the beginning of the race, also altered the strategy, with tyre degradation at the most critical fuel-heavy period minimised. Tyre supplier Pirelli says that wear on both compounds was generally low, despite track temperatures that exceeded 45 degrees centigrade and 30 degrees centigrade ambient.
Exclusive FIA World Rallycross Championship tyre supplier Cooper Tires is taking a trip to Hell with its ultra-high performance brand ambassador, David Coulthard. The 13-time grand prix winner will attend the Norwegian round of the revived series in Hell, near Trondheim on 14-15 June. Coulthard will attend the event with Cooper, andwhile this occasion will not see Coulthard compete, he did not rule out participation in some form. The series championship has already attracted some big names, including ex-FIA World Rally Champion Petter Solberg, reigning British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan and Top Gear USA presenter and X Games star, Tanner Foust.
Michelin has announced its intention to acquire all outstanding shares of Sascar, the leading Brazilian digital fleet management and freight security company. Michelin said that the acquisition would help to strengthen its global truck fleet telematics business, calling it an important growth area.
