ZF Services UK opens Technical Training Centre
ZF Services UK, the UK after sales business unit of the global driveline and chassis technology company ZF Friedrichshafen AG, has opened a new Technical Training Centre to meet growing demand from distributors and customers for its expertise. The centre, at Crick, Northamptonshire, comprises a classroom and fully equipped workshop with ramps, ZF-Testman diagnostic equipment and specialised tools, plus a variety of vehicles for practical demonstrations and for technicians to work on.
Aeolus sponsored Dongfeng finishes first in home port of Sanya
Aeolus became platinum sponsor of the Dongfeng Racing Team in the Volvo Ocean Race this season (2014/15), and now for the first time in in the Race’s 41-year history a Chinese team has won a leg. After leading the fleet virtually all the way from Abu Dhabi to Sanya in China, over more than 5,000 miles of intense ocean racing, Dongfeng finally crossed the finish line in first place as the sun rose over Sanya (23:31:38 UTC) in a time of 23 days, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 38 seconds.
Heuver expands management team with internal appointment
As of January 2015, Laura van den Heuvel will occupy the newly created position of sales manager at Heuver Tyrewholesale. The wholesaler said the position has been introduced to further improve effectiveness and customer focus.
Forge Motorsport dump valve for BMW 135i
Forge Motorsport has released details of its latest dump valve (or blow-off valve) for all BMW 135 Turbo models that have the electronically controlled bypass valves fitted. The product was engineered to solve a problem that can occur on tuned models with increased boost pressure. Forge calls it a “useful ‘belt and braces’ measure” for any car running hard in a warmer climate. Failure of the stock valve can happen under either set of circumstances.
WRC round 1: All-Volkswagen/Michelin podium in Monte Carlo
The 2015 Rallye Monte-Carlo saw Sébastien Loeb (Citroën DS3 WRC) and defending world champion Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen Polo R WRC) clash for the first time this World Rally Championship season. Changing conditions meant competitors needed to use tyres strategically, with Michelin, one of four current tyre suppliers, talking about a broad variety of combinations of its asphalt and studded/non-studded winter tyres in use.

Ducati makes Diablo Supercorsa SP OE on three performance bikes
Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP will be fitted to the new Ducati 1299 Panigale, 1299 Panigale S and Panigale R as original equipment in 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 200/55 ZR17 (rear). The Italian tyre manufacturer says the tyre represents technologies developed as a result of Pirelli’s racing experience and heritage as sole supplier of the World Superbike Championship since 2004. The latest fitments are the latest in a series of OE deals with Ducati and other marques.

Goodyear introduced 8 new AA-labelled EfficientGrip Performance tyre sizes
The latest AA passenger car tyre has arrived, with eight sizes of Goodyear’s EfficientGrip Performance meeting the wet grip and rolling resistance criteria. The brand is now providing one of the largest number of tyre sizes sporting AA EU tyre label grades on the market. The new sizes complement an already extensive BA rated offering from Goodyear on the market today, with 53 EfficientGrip Performance sizes rated BA.

Government to spend more on ‘stealth’ speed cameras
It has been reported that the government is set for further expenditure on speed cameras for the motorway network. Currently the cameras, which are positioned on the M25 and use digital technology, are designed to catch motorists breaking the 70 mph speed limit.
2014 best year for UK car manufacturing since 2007
SMMT figures show that 1,528,148 cars weremanufactured in the UK in 2014 – a 1.2 per cent increase on the previous year and the best year since 2007. In addition, the strongest December in a decade saw 108,721 cars produced; up 27.1 per cent on December 2013. This growth came despite challenges in some export markets.
IAM wants employers to raise standard of company drivers
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has called for companies to step up their commitment to safer business driving on UK roads, by recommending organisations they employ or hire carry the ISO 39001 accreditation – which shows their drivers have met some of the highest safety standards.

Lack of confidence in garage professionals to blame for motorists driving defective cars says IMI
Road safety charity, Brake and Direct Line have released data on drivers’ attitudes when it comes to vehicle safety checks and basic maintenance. Almost half of respondents admitted to driving with at least one risky vehicle problem or defect. The IMI, the professional body for the motor industry which is campaigning for the licensing of the retail motor trade, believes fears of being over-charged or given poor service by garages are probably contributing to motorists’ attitudes.
UK engine production rises in December
The SMMT says that UK engine manufacturing output returned to growth in December, rising 6.7 per cent. However, output fell 6.2 per cent over the year, following retooling at a number of facilities, although the outlook is bright, thanks to major investments into UK engine manufacturing.
