Nine people caught topping 120mph on Scottish roads
Nine people were caught by safety cameras in Scotland exceeding 120mph during 2014, according to the latest figures obtained by road safety charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The charity made a Freedom of Information request to Police Scotland asking for details of the Top 20 cases of excessive speeding captured on safety cameras on Scottish roads in 2014.
PRA joins in call for ATMs to be exempt from business rates
The Petrol Retailers Association (PRA), which represents Britain’s 5,400 independent petrol filling stations, has joined the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) in calling for ATMs to be exempt from Business Rates.
Dunlop launches TrailSmart adventure bike tyre
Dunlop has launched TrailSmart, a tyre designed for modern adventure bikes and riders. The brand said the new tyres have “exceptional” wet and dry grip, improving handling both on and off-road, along with increased mileage. The tyre builds on the achievement of the DunlopTrailmax TR91 tyre, tailored for the evolving adventure bike segment.
Servicesure Autocentres appoints first national sales manager, anticipating growth
Servicesure Autocentres has appointed its first national sales manager, Jason McCreanney. Servicesure is a national garage programme developed by The Parts Alliance; the parts distributor said the appointment marked the start of “rapid growth” for the scheme. McCreanney currently works as a business project manager for Car Parts & Accessories (CPA), the Sussex headquartered motor factor acquired by The Parts Alliance in September last year. He officially takes up his new role on Wednesday, 1 April.
New F1 rear tyre construction could see 2-second faster laps all season – Pirelli
Following its analysis of the data from the opening Australian Grand Prix, Pirelli has restated its pre-season prediction that lap times in Formula One could be two seconds faster throughout the 2015 season.
Debut for Pirelli P7 Classic W7 on Costa Brava historic rally
Pirelli’s new P7 Classic W7 was used by the top three finishers in the second round of this year’s FIA European Historic Rally Championship, the 63rd Rally Costa Brava. The top two finishers drove Lancia Delta Integrales, similar to the cars that made their mark on the World Rally Championship with Pirelli in the late 1980s. Under the latest FIA historic regulations, cars that competed up to 1990 are now eligible for classic events – with many of them now at the forefront of the action.
New Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 optional original equipment tyre on Audi R8
Michelin has specially developed a new variant of its Pilot Sport Cup 2 ultra-high performance tyre for the original equipment fitment on the new Audi R8. The tyre is an optional fitment to be specified by customers, which can be identified by the RO1 marking on its sidewall. Michelin describes meeting the requirements of Audi as a technological challenge; engineers sought to combine high levels of dry grip to improve lap times on the track, without any compromise in safety on wet roads. The tyre sizes are 245/30ZR20 (front) and 305/30ZR20 (rear).

Gaither launches new tyre mounting, hand cleaning pastes
Gaither Europe has announced the launch of a new line of tyre mounting pastes. The first product is titled Black Tire Mounting Paste, which is designed to help mount and demount tyres without leaving any visible residue. Secondly, the Truck Tire Mounting Paste is designed specifically for truck tyres.
Goodyear launches ‘My Feel Good Place’ social media campaign
Goodyear launched a new social media campaign to back up its “Made to Feel Good” slogan. The “My Feel Good Place” campaign is being run through Instagram, collecting images of people’s favourite spots from around the world and automatically generating an interactive map. Goodyear states that the initiative represents an expansion of its mission statement; the manufacturer wants to expand the meaning of its slogan from “giving people the experience of a comfortable journey to the experience of that next inspiring, familiar or even life-changing destination.” Instagram users can submit pictures to the platform tagging a photo with #MyFeelGoodPlace. Their shot may then be eligible to win a few prizes, including a grand prize of two Goodyear-sponsored around the world airline tickets.
Guy Jones appointed Bridgestone North region business development manager
Bridgestone has boosted its North region senior management team with the addition of a new business development role. Guy Jones, formerly of Land Rover and Kia, brings a wealth of automotive experience to the new Bridgestone management team, which has been revamped considerably in the last few months.
