‘Best result since WRC return’ – Pirelli

Pirelli has claimed its best overall result on a rally since returning to the World Rally Championship last year. Martin Prokop – equalling his own best-ever career result – claimed fourth place, while in the WRC2 category Qatari driver Abdulaziz Al Kawari claimed victory. Simone Tempestini claimed the Production category too, ensuring a win for Pirelli in all the main support categories and the top results for privateer drivers: the focus of Pirelli’s World Rally Championship campaign this year.

The Parts Alliance launches national tool hire programme, Toolhireclub.com

The Parts Alliance has launched a national tool hire programme. Designed to allow independent garages and workshops to retain business by improving access to specialist tools, Toolhireclub.com, is described as “a first” for a motor factor group. 300 special service tools and pieces of diagnostic equipment covering every major area of service and repair are available for hire. The Parts Alliance says it will allow garage owners to hire tools at low cost that in some cases would cost thousands of pounds to buy and would otherwise be beyond their budget.

Dunlop LMP2 teams aim to bolster World Championship lead at Spa

The second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship will take place at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, and Dunlop hopes to help the G-Drive Racing team to hold on to first and second places following their first-second finish at Silverstone earlier this month.

Recalls of ‘serious risk’ motor vehicles at five year high

Recalls of motor vehicles models posing a serious safety risk are at their highest since 2010, according to an analysis by international law firm Pinsent Masons. Research conducted by the firm found that in 2014, 195 recalls for motor vehicle models were issued, more than at any point in the last five years.

Lowest petrol sales for 25 years in March 2015

The National Franchised Dealers Association has revealed that petrol sales fell 10 per cent in March to a record low of 1.31bn litres. The month followed growth of around four per cent in February, when drivers took advantage of prices 22p per litre lower than the year before.

Formula E car to be upgraded before next season

The Formula E car – the Spark-Renault SRT_01E – will receive a series of updates ahead of season two of the all-electric racing series. Speaking in a mid-season update, Spark technical director Theophile Gouzin confirmed: “We’re constantly improving the car’s mechanical components in order to meet street circuit requirements.

Whippet Coaches signs first tyre management deal with Michelin Solutions

Whippet Coaches has moved its fleet on to a rolling Effitires contract with Michelin Solutions. The outsourced tyre management deal is the first pence-per-kilometre agreement to be implemented by the coach operator.

Kingsway Tyres first dealer to register with CAM’s e-jobsheet.com

Kingsway Tyres has become the first tyre dealer to register with e-jobsheet.com, CAM’s open-access mobile data platform for digital tablet technology in the truck, bus and van service arena. Signing up at the CV Show in April, director and general manager of Kingsway Tyres, Martin O’Brien, says, “We were persuaded to register by the many benefits associated by taking greater control of our truck tyre service work which will continue to improve our processes, drive efficiencies and reduce costs.”

London’s Transport Commissioner to speak at FTA Conference

London’s transport commissioner, Sir Peter Hendy CBE, will be making the keynote address at the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA’s) Managing Freight in London Conference in June. Sponsored by Transport for London (TfL), the event will highlight the challenges transport operators in London face over the next two to three years, examining those challenges in more detail and suggesting possible solutions.

British car output – productivity hits all-time high

SMMT figures show that the strong British car market drove domestic production up 1.9 per cent in March with 144,893 cars built – the best March since 2006. Manufacturing output for the domestic market, meanwhile, rose almost a quarter, reflecting continuing strong demand for new cars in the UK.

Spain’s Industrias Del Neumaticos wins 2015 Miss Retread Truck Tire Contest

The centrepiece of the North American Tire & Retread Expo was the inaugural Miss Retread Truck Tire Contest, won by Industrias Del Neumaticos of Alicante, Spain. The winning company was awarded $5,000 along with a trophy. 22 retread tires were entered in the contest.

North American Tire & Retread Expo draws praise from exhibitors

The 2015 North American Tire & Retread Expo was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans between 15 and 17 April, 2015. Featuring 112 tyre, tyre retread, and tyre equipment and repair companies, the show attracted 1,041 registered visitors.
