Pirelli: ‘no better place to showcase F1’ than Circuit of the Americas

Pirelli will supply its P Zero Yellow soft and White medium compound tyres as Formula One visits the “crucial market” of the USA on 23-25 October. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas is the tenth venue to have hosted a Formula One grand prix in the United States. The track is well known for its spectacular elevation changes of up to 40 metres, with an uphill run to the distinctive turn one, which is a hairpin bend and the signature corner. Paul Hembery, Pirelli motorsport director said: “The United States always offers us a very warm welcome and a fantastic race weekend. Like all the other stakeholders in Formula One, America is a crucial market for us so it’s very important for us to have a race there.”

Borg & Beck publishes wiper blade safety poster

Tyres are not the only rubber component of a car that will deteriorate when exposed to weather, temperature changes and time, as a new poster published by First Line Group (FLG) brand Borg & Beck. Wiper blades’ deterioration affects driver visibility, therefore increasing risks to passengers and other road users. The company recommends that motorists replace their wiper blades annually, and has produced a poster for display in reception areas to argue this case.

MCIA director receives 3rd award nomination in 2015

Karen Cole, director of training for the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), has been shortlisted for a national award in recognition of her work on motorcycle safety – her third this year. Two previous awards were presented at the beginning of the year, one for ‘services to rider and safety training’, and another for ‘outstanding achievement in motorcycle safety’. On 22 October she will find out if her team has won an Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) ‘IMI Specialist Centre of the Year 2015’ award.

Vauxhall introduces vehicle scrappage scheme

Vauxhall has launched a Scrappage Allowance scheme, five years after the ending of the official government-backed initiative that helped jump start new car sales during the recession.

Solid Auto UK adds to filter range

Solid Auto UK has added a number of new air, oil and fuel filters to its expanding filters range for Japanese and Korean vehicles. In total, nine new filters have been launched covering 54 vehicle applications.

Award for Autoparts UK

Autoparts UK was named the UAN distributor of the year at the recent Groupauto/UAN Gala Dinner and Trade Show. The parts distributor, which operates out of 12 branches with a head office in Glasgow, Scotland, has been a member of the group for nearly 10 years.

IMI research highlights MPs’ ignorance of vehicle repair regulations

New research commissioned by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) reveals that nearly one in five MPs believe all technicians in their local garage are qualified to work on today’s vehicles. But, according to the IMI, the reality is quite different, with no mandatory requirement for vehicle technicians to be qualified – or to ensure qualifications are kept up to date and in line with new vehicle technology. With separate IMI research revealing that 53 per cent of drivers planning to buy or lease a new car in the next two years are considering an electric or hybrid vehicle, the IMI is urging government to tackle this issue in the interests of public safety – and to help rebuild motorists’ trust in the sector.

Yokohama comments on positive W.Drive winter tyre test results

Yokohama’s W.Drive V905 winter tyre has followed the strong showing of the Advan Sport summer tyre in the UK’s EVO Magazine tyre test, with a set of strong performances in tests across Europe. In three separate reports, two in Germany and one in Switzerland, the tyre finished among the top ranked products.

Cooper prepares for final European round of 2015 World RX Championship

The penultimate round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship – the last in Europe – takes place at the Franciacorta International Circuit this weekend, and both the 2015 World RX Drivers’ Championship and Teams’ Championships could be decided. Franciacorta, in northern Italy, will form the final round of this year’s FIA European Rallycross Championship (Euro RX), the Super1600 category plus the supporting RX Lites Cup. Cooper Tire is the exclusive tyre supplier for the series, and Paul Coates, general manager – motorsport, Cooper Tire Europe has explained the challenges for the drivers at the Franciacorta circuit.

Garmin delivers world first video monitor sat nav system

Garmin has launched the babyCam, a world-first in-vehicle video monitor that functions wirelessly with a compatible Garmin GPS sat nav. Aimed at facilitating driver safety, the babyCam conveniently transmits video to the GPS sat nav display, allowing parents or caregivers the benefit of daily route guidance while the babyCam monitors their children in the back seat of a vehicle.

Hankook, DTM celebrate 2015 finale at Hockenheim

The grand finale of the DTM season will be contested on the Hockenheimring, as is traditional, and the touring car series’ exclusive tyre supplier, Hankook will this year celebrate five years and 56 races. For Pascal Wehrlein, the final weekend could turn into a victory parade. The Mercedes-Benz driver currently leads the drivers’ classification with a 37-point advantage and has been allocated just 2.5kg more performance weight than his closest rivals Edoardo Mortara and Mattias Ekström (both Audi).

Toyo renews Leicester City Football Club partnership

Toyo Tires has announced that is has decided to renew its UK partnership with Leicester City Football Club into the 2015 and 2016 season. The partnership of Toyo Tires and Leicester City Football Club will see the Japanese company continue its commercial presence at the King Power stadium, while the distinctive blue branding will also be visible on the Foxes’ first team training wear.

Monmouth tyre dealer a regular supporter of local young farmers

Paul Jarrold Tyres of Monmouth, South Wales is supporting the future of farming with donations to its local young farmers club. The dealer – based on Wonastow Road Industrial Estate and part of Michelin’s Exelagri network of farm tyre specialists – began supporting Gwent Young Farmers’ Clubs almost three years ago, contributing towards the cost of the organisation’s new clubhouse. Since then the company has continued to look for opportunities to lend its support and for the past year has given £50 per month.

First Line Groupauto award follows HSBC International ranking success

Presented at a gala dinner following the recent Groupauto & UAN trade show in Liverpool, First Line Ltd has been presented with Groupauto’s runners-up trophy in the ‘Supplier of the Year’ category. First Line stated that the award is “further recognition of the strength of the First Line and Borg & Beck brands, as well as the relationship the company and its employees have with motor factors and workshops across the country.”
