Car dealers stock up in readiness for the New Year rush

The beginning of the year signals the start of a busy period in most lines of work, and My Car Check Trade states that car dealerships are no different. Head of valuation services, Gavin Amos, states: “Dealerships are hives of activity in January as, with Christmas over, consumers turn their attention to looking for a new car. Footfall always increases dramatically at this time of year and retailers will have taken advantage of the December lull to stock up in readiness.

Jon Tatnall made EDT sales director

Having joined engine detox specialist EDT Automotive as national sales manager in August, Jon Tatnall has been promoted to sales director with immediate effect. A motor trade man through and through, Tatnall was previously dealer principal at Yeomans Peugeot and Hyundai in Hastings. He started his career as a trainee sales executive at Sidlow Group, before taking increasingly senior roles at Lifestyle, Pinewood and Pendragon.

Liverpool firm to supply diesel engine cleaner to RAC fleet

Liverpool-based engine care specialist Cataclean has finalised a major agreement with the RAC’s fleet of UK patrol vehicles following a limited trial, conducted via Cataclean’s distribution partner Euro Car Parts on 40 vehicles. As a result, the RAC’s 1,400 vehicles will carry one of the company’s flagship products, Cataclean Diesel, which is primarily pitched as a solution to clogged diesel particulate filters, but can be used for petrol and hybrid engines too. Cataclean’s director of sales William Jones said the product was selected following a rise in the number of RAC call-outs to vehicles with clogged diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

Chicago Pneumatic adds wheel dollies, presses to workshop equipment range

Chicago Pneumatic has added new wheel dollies and rugged workshop presses to its line of workshop equipment for the professional automotive and heavy fleet maintenance industries. The two new wheel dollies for heavy vehicle tyre changing and maintenance have lifting capacities of up to 1543 lbs (700kg) and 1.2 tons and are a robust assembly aid for trucks, buses and tractors.

Glass’s forecasts profitable 2016 for motor trade

Growth in the number and variety of finance packages available to private buyers is set to power the new and used car markets in 2016, predicts Glass’s. In the new car sector, which will see growth in registrations of around 3 per cent, further finance packages will need to stimulate consumer interest and provide new avenues to affordability.

New Kumho Portran KC53 van tyre to replace Radial 857 in 15-16” sizes

Kumho has launched a new heavy duty tyre for vans. The KC53 is primarily designed for the latest generation of large commercial vans and will gradually supersede the long-serving 857 in popular 15” and 16” sizes, the manufacturer states.

IAAF awards and dinner brings independent aftermarket together

The IAAF annual awards & dinner 2015 hosted its “most prestigious ceremony to date” for the second year running at the ICC in the heart of Birmingham. Sponsored by Comma Lubricants, sports broadcaster John Inverdale was the guest speaker for the evening. With 600 guests, and more than 30 aftermarket companies in attendance contesting the awards, after-dinner entertainment was provided by an acoustic set by Prok & Chloe. In addition to the headline sponsor, the event benefited from sponsorship from a number of major brands, taking full advantage of the vast range of aftermarket decision makers in attendance. The automotive industry charity, BEN, raised nearly £10,000 on the night.

WAIglobal honoured in IAAF vote

WAIglobal was runner-up in the Car Supplier of the Year category at the IAAF Annual Award Ceremony on 17 December. The result was announced at the ICC in Birmingham, where the awards dinner welcomed close to 600 aftermarket personnel, celebrating fast-growing, hardworking distributors and suppliers in the independent aftermarket. More than 40 companies contested the awards.

Kumho looks back on 2015 motorsport successes

Kumho’s year in motorsport was capped by its continued association with single-seater racing in the form of the Formula 3 Masters weekend in Zandvoort, which celebrated its quarter-century anniversary in September. No spike in 4×4 values this year, says Glass’s

The traditional winter surge in values for 4x4s has failed to materialise again this year and may no longer be a feature of the market, reports Glass’s. The last few relatively mild winters has meant that there has been no spike in retail demand, explained Rupert Pontin, head of valuations.
