The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has begun a crackdown on tyres that are more than 10 years old. As part of Road Safety Week, the DVSA has updated its Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, to ensure large vehicles remain safe to drive by limiting the use of old tyres.

Melksham Motor Spares has begun to bring garages together to train with Delphi on its hybrid electric vehicle course. The company said the training would help to leverage the opportunity offered by the latest hybrid technology. Delphi’s IMI accredited hybrid vehicle training programme has been designed to give technicians the confidence and capability to work safely and effectively on hybrid systems.
Mike Welch, the founder of Blackcircles.com has founded Tirescanner.com, a new online portal designed for North American tyre retailers. Initially investing more than $1million in the venture, Welch claims it will be “North America’s first online portal for brick and mortar tyre retailers.” Welch sold UK “click and fit” tyre retailer, Blackcircles to Michelin three years ago, and will bring his online experience to the world’s largest tyre retail market in the US, where replacement tyre sales reached $39.6 billion in 2017. Earlier in 2018, Welch became strategic adviser and shareholder of Indian e-commerce venture Tyremarket.com, while he joined the board of US player Simpletire.com in 2017, prior to US distributor Dealer Tires, itself currently in the process of being acquired by Bain Capital, making an investment in the company this year.

One of the UK’s largest single site motor factors, Autosupplies Chesterfield, has become the latest UK distributor to stock Mahle Aftermarket products, by adding its OE quality filters to its extensive product range. The award-winning motor factor has added Mahle in order to meet increasing demand from independent garages. With the business growing year on year, Autosupplies now employs over 100 members of staff and more than 60 vans and is now one of the largest single branch motor factors in the UK.
Hofmann Megaplan’s Smart X tyre changer has been approved by BMW for installation in its franchise dealerships. Hofmann Megaplan states that the automated machine’s approval by the German marque backs up its quality and simplicity, as the manufacturer’s preference for runflat tyres presents more difficult wheel assemblies on which to perform the change.
Motorcycle parts and accessories distributor Bickers is reminding motorists of a few top safety tips they can employ to keep their bike in the best condition while stored during the colder months.
