SBTi certifies SRI emissions targets

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has granted Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. (SRI) certification for its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for 2030, deeming these to be consistent with scientific evidence. For Scope 1 and Scope 2, or greenhouse gas emissions arising from the company’s own activities, the manufacturer of the Falken and (outside Europe) Dunlop tyre brands aims to reduce absolute emissions by 55 per cent, compared with 2017 levels. SRI’s target for Scope 3 and Category 1 is to reduce absolute emissions by 25 per cent, compared with 2021.
“We have set targets for 2030 to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the supply chain, including SBT-certified targets. We are promoting the initiatives set forth in Driving Our Future Challenge 2050* our long-term sustainability policy, and Towanowa, our circular economy concept for the tyre industry,” states SRI. “We are committed to working toward solutions to social and environmental issues throughout our business activities so that we may contribute to the development of a sustainable society.”
