Nokian lays off car tyre production in Nokia

Nokian Tyres is adjusting production at its Nokia passenger car tyre factory in Finland for “at least two weeks”. However, based on recent negotiations the production employees can be laid off due to financial and production related reasons for a maximum period of 90 days. The lay-offs result from “ongoing political strikes affecting ports and transportation in Finland”, according to the company. Nokian reports that that wider environment has led to “Nokian Tyres’ inventories of tyres filling up, as the company is unable to deliver tyres to its customers”.
On 22 March 2024, Nokian Tyres representatives “commenced and concluded change negotiations concerning all its production employees at the Nokia passenger car tyre factory”, 350 people in total.
In summary, due to the strikes in Finland, Nokian Tyre’s passenger car tyre production employees will be laid-off between 26 March and 9 April 2024. But those lay-offs could potentially be extended up to 90 days. Production of heavy tyres will continue as normal at the Nokian Tyres plant in Nokia.
