Michelin announces exclusive European Peugeot 3008 & E-3008 tyre supply

Peugeot has selected Michelin to exclusively equip Peugeot 3008 and E-3008 models sold in Europe. Depending on model and customer preferences, the vehicle manufacturer will fit the Michelin e.Primacy in size 235/50 R 20 104V, 235/55 R 19 105V, or 225/55 R 19 103V, or the Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV in 225/55 R 19 103 V or 235/55 R 19 105 V.

Reporting its status as exclusive tyre supplier for Europe, Michelin shares that its engineers worked for three years to develop tyres that met Peugeot’s requirements for the 3008 and E-3008, specifications that included “extremely high expectations” in terms of safety on wet and dry surfaces, and also key criteria such as long life and energy efficiency. These are areas of expertise in which “Michelin is recognised as being a leader.”

More than a decade of EV experience

“The electric vehicle is changing several paradigms in terms of tyres,” comments Philippe Jacquin, vice-president of car and light truck tyre development at Michelin. “It increases the tyre’s level of demand on multiple criteria in a simultaneous fashion, which represents a challenge for our engineers. In fact, making theoretically contradictory characteristics advance together is in the DNA of Michelin, which ceaselessly pushes the boundary of its tyre performances.

“For more than ten years we have been working on understanding the specific features of electric vehicles with regard to tyres,” Jacquin continues. “The biggest change comes from the weight, which is always heavier, as these are battery-powered vehicles. The same dimension of tyre must sometimes carry a few dozen (mild-hybrid technology) to several hundred additional kilograms on electric (BEV) models. Furthermore, the fact that the electric motors deliver their maximum torque as of startup adds extra stress, to which the effects of regenerative braking are added. This increase in traction and braking stress, combined with the increase in weight is likely to speed up wear. We have taken these elements into consideration in our development process, and this is what has allowed us to supply our partner with specific tyres. You could say that the tyres for the new Peugeot 3008 meet all these criteria and have truly been made for it.”

Pilot Sport 4 SUV

Although not an exclusive fitment, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV in 235/50 R 20 104V is a further Michelin tyre that Peugeot 3008 and E-3008 owners can select, including in markets outside Europe. Michelin makes this tyre, along with the original equipment CrossClimate SUV and e.Primacy tyres, at its Vitoria and Valladolid factories in Spain, Cuneo plant in Italy, and Bad Kreuznach site in Germany.
