Maxxis considering Nigeria tyre factory

In February 2024, directors of Maxxis visited the rulers of the Ukanku Community in the Ukwa East region of Nigeria. According to local Nigerian media Business Day, Maxxis executives inspected the land where they were “preparing to build a tyre factory.” Another media outlet, The Cable, stated that Maxxis announced “plans” to build a local tyre manufacturing plant.
The local media in Nigeria established a relationship between the visit of Maxxis directors and the official opening of a prominent regional power station.
Currently, Maxxis is a brand owned by Taiwanese tyre manufacturer Cheng Shin Rubber. The Nigerian media only revealed that the director who went to inspect this time was Taiwanese but did not disclose his specific position. Cheng Shin Rubber has yet to reveal its official investment plans in Africa.
Previously, Maxxis stated in a press release that it had achieved rapid growth in sales on the African continent since 2008 and had a considerable share of the local market.
