Check tyres when taking vehicles out of storage: TyreSafe

UK road safety charity TyreSafe has reminded owners of vehicles emerging from winter storage that there is a heightened risk of tyre degradation for vehicles that have been off the road for an extended period. Typically spring is when vehicles such as trailers, motorcycles, caravans, and motorhomes are taken out of storage, and these vehicles are therefore prone to having tyres that have developed cracks, bulges, or other signs of wear, making them unsafe for road use.
Stuart Lovatt, chair of TyreSafe, emphasised the importance of proactive tyre maintenance, stating, “As we welcome the arrival of spring, it is crucial for all motorists to ensure their tyres are in optimal condition before embarking on their journeys. Neglected tyres can pose serious safety risks, especially for vehicles that have been in storage during the winter months.”
Lovatt added: “As the roads become busier with the onset of spring, it is imperative that vehicle owners prioritise tyre safety. Performing regular checks using the A.C.T acronym can significantly reduce the risk of tyre-related incidents and enhance road safety for everyone.”
