Yokohama extends E+ mark to CV tyres

Yokohama recently joined the ranks of brands with a symbol denoting a tyre’s suitability for electric vehicles. This is the E+ sidewall marking, which Yokohama Rubber debuted on the Yokohama Advan Sport EV last year. The tyre maker is now extending the E+ mark to commercial tyres, initially on two Yokohama bus tyre models, one sold in the European market and one in Japan.
According to Yokohama Rubber, only tyres that “feature technologies that meet the unique needs of electrified vehicles” qualify to wear the E+ mark. For example, a tyre must be strong enough to withstand the higher loads associated with heavy electric batteries as well as the electric motor’s high torque output. It must also keep road noise to a minimum and contribute to expanding the vehicle’s driving range.
In addition to positioning the E+ mark on tyre sidewalls, Yokohama Rubber will aid customers’ purchase decisions by prominently displaying the symbol in tyre catalogues and online.
Following the debut of the Advan Sport EV, the next passenger car tyre to bear the E+ mark will be the new Advan dB V553 comfort tyre, which Yokohama is introducing in Japan and Asia this month. The first E+ marked Yokohama bus tyres are the 507U, a Japan-only product, and the European market 120U. Going forwards, Yokohama Rubber intends to expand the application of its proprietary E+ mark.
