GDSO welcomes Yokohama Rubber as full member

As of January 2024, the Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is a full member of the Global Data Service Organisation (GDSO) for Tyres and Automotive Components, an international non-profit association promoting standardisation and access to tyre-related data. As a GDSO member, Yokohama Rubber will comply with industry standards promoting individual tyre identification management.
The GDSO aims to simplify access to tyre data for manufacturers and other industry stakeholders. By establishing global agreements on standardising tyre-related data, defining solutions for data access, and developing online tools for accessing tyre data, GDSO seeks to streamline processes across the tyre value chain. To achieve this goal, GDSO has already created a platform that enables the sharing of data from a uniquely identifiable tyre, using various technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID). Additionally, GDSO is in the process of developing a new service to gather critical information throughout the tyre’s lifespan.
Creating a platform for tyre data
Yokohama Rubber will participate in GDSO activities to advance the creation of a platform that effectively harnesses diverse tyre-related data. As part of this commitment, the company will ensure compliance with industry standards by offering access to precise, dependable, and current data through its tyre data management platform. Furthermore, Yokohama Rubber will develop and upkeep necessary applications for accessing this data.
RFID is a wireless communication technology using radio waves to read and write data on tags embedded within a product, eliminating the need for physical contact. Using RFID simplifies tyre identification management and enables traceability throughout the tyre’s lifecycle. This traceability enhances safety by supporting the efforts of tyre makers who work to assure quality by addressing defects and eliminating counterfeit products. Additionally, Yokohama Rubber anticipates that RFID will boost efficiency in inventory management and logistics within factories and warehouses.
The company reports it has “successfully developed tyres equipped with RFID technology.” Moving forward, Yokohama Rubber will explore ways to cater to customer needs by leveraging RFID data for specific tyres.
Nexen Tire has also announced its full GDSO membership.
