Yokohama introduces ‘superbly quiet’ Advan dB V553 tyre

On boxing day 2023, The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. introduced what it calls a “superbly quiet” tyre. According to Yokohama, the new Advan dB V553 will be able to maintain it low-noise properties through out the tyre’s life.
The Advan dB V553 will initially be launched in Japan and Asian markets from February 2024. At that point, Yokohama will make the tyre 46 sizes, ranging from 225/45R21 95W to 155/65R14 75H. There are no official indications as to whether or not the tyre will end up in Europe or the US, but the fact that Yokohama states it will “initially” be launched in Japan suggests other markets will follow. In addition, Yokohama’s particular emphasis on low-noise technology stands out in the case of the dB V553 and that too suggests a trend for the future.
The Advan dB V553 is a successor to the Advan dB V552, which was unveiled in 2017. According to the company, the new tyre was developed to “provide drivers and passengers with a superbly quiet, comfortable, and safe ride over its entire useful lifespan”. As well as enhancing the quietness of its predecessor (which was already purportedly a quiet tyre), the Advan dB V553 features a construction that slows the deterioration of the tyre’s quietness and wet performance typically caused by wear.
Furthermore, the dB V553’s development included creating “a new tread pattern design and optimal structures for each tyre size”. As a result, noise energy is reduced both when the tyre is new and after a certain amount of wear compared to its predecessor.
The compound used in Advan dB tyres reportedly provides them with “an excellent balance of fuel efficiency, wet performance, and wear resistance”. And the dB V553’s sidewalls feature a pattern that gives an image of “tranquillity in rain and a distinctly stylish logo design, which together present an image worthy of a premium comfort tyre”, according to Yokohama.
The fact that the dB V553 also bears Yokohama Rubber’s proprietary “E+” mark indicates that the tyre is suitable for use on EVs. And that confirms, if there was any doubt, the thinking behind Yokohama’s emphasis on tyre quietness in this latest product – the Japanese tyremaker is preparing its position in relation to electric vehicles.
