Xpeng offers China-wide advanced ADAS

Chinese electric vehicle maker, Xpeng Inc, has given customers in the People’s Republic access to its XNGP urban driving ADAS capabilities across the country via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Xpeng reports that it is the first Chinese vehicle maker to offer such services and has therefore “taken the lead in terms of urban roads coverage and customer experience of mass-produced high-level ADAS”. Now the plan is to extend XNGP’s coverage to a total of 200 cities across China by early 2024.
On 29 December 2023, Xpeng confirmed that it had successfully rolled out its XNGP Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for customers in 27 more cities, including Tianjin, Chengdu, Xi’an, Wuhan and Changsha. To date, XNGP is available for all the Xpeng Max trim customers in a total of 52 cities.
Xpeng’s most recent OTA update features “significant enhancements in a broad range of ADAS functions, bringing Xpeng owners a safer, smoother and more comfortable smart driving experience”, a statement explained, adding: “XNGP is optimized to adapt to different cities’ driving scenarios.”
“The inflection point of ADAS technology will come with the achievement of nationwide coverage with low cost, a high level of safety and great customer experience,” said He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng. “I strongly believe that the demand for ADAS will surge in the next five years, and Xpeng will be the preferred Smart EV brand for consumers.”
Xpeng set to enter Europe in 2024
In September 2023, Xpeng announced that it will enter the European mass market in 2024, beginning with a German operation. However, the company actually began selling in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands in 2023. In practice that means the introduction of the Xpeng P7 sports saloon and Xpeng G9 SUV.
Speaking at the IAA event in German a few months back, Brian Gu, vice chairman and co-president of Xpeng said: “XPENG is entering one of the most competitive automotive markets in the world, with customers that expect the absolute highest standards; we want to introduce a new level of sophistication with impressive technology that will define the new smart mobility era.”
Xpeng designs, develops, manufactures, and markets smart EVs that appeal to the large and growing base of technology-savvy middle-class consumers. Its mission is to drive Smart EV transformation with technology, shaping the mobility experience of the future. Xpeng is headquartered in Guangzhou, China, with main offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Silicon Valley, San Diego and Amsterdam.
