Fire totally destroyed the production plant of Ellerbrock, the German subsidiary of Marangoni. The company said that, not only would it rebuild the factory, but the plant would be the most modern in Europe.
Two pats on the back for Continental – the mould factory of Barum Continental at Otrokovice and the Continental Teves factory at Jicin were recipients of the ‘National Quality Award 2003’ of the Czech Republic.
In Germany, the Schaeffler Group completed its takeover of Continental AG.
A survey by ATS of fleet cars in the UK revealed the worrying fact that one in ten had at least one tyre with tread depth below the 1.6 mm legal minimum.
Bridgestone said that it would invest US$63 million in its tyre factory at Camacari, Brazil.
Cooper Tire & Rubber opened a 6800 sq. m distribution centre in Belgrade, in a joint venture with logistics specialist company Milsped.
Magna Tyres Group opened a new regional office in South Africa, building on “extremely successful” business in SA and neighbouring countries, the company says.
Prinx Chengshan invested 170.6 million yuan (£19.464 million) in buying at least 433,600 sqm of land at Tambon Nong Suea, Thailand, for a new tyre factory.
