Continental tyres for Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Mercedes-Benz has a new E-Class, and Continental is supplying original equipment tyres. The tyre maker shared news of this OEM arrangement today, but the cat actually made its way out of the bag when Continental announced tyre supply to the new BMW 5 Series last December. Like its Munich-based rival’s car, the E-Class will wear Continental EcoContact 6 Q tyres, with seven dimensions approved for original equipment fitment. Mercedes-Benz has also homologated the WinterContact TS 860 S in five sizes.

Continental says it developed the EcoContact 6 Q for “exceptionally energy-efficient driving with optimised noise levels.” It credits the tyre with delivering a range of benefits, including a long service life and low energy consumption. Continental’s developers have also improved the tread of the EcoContact 6 Q, thereby reducing rolling noise.

Although a niche fitment in the UK, Continental has tailored its WinterContact TS 860 S for the E-Class, and owners can buy these through Mercedes-Benz dealerships and tyre dealers. “This winter tyre model ensures precise handling on dry and wet roads in cold temperatures,” says Continental. “It also delivers solid grip on snowy ground. As a result, it provides reliable braking performance and thus a high level of safety on the road in winter.”
