Chinese authorities issue guidance document on tyre industry structural adjustment

The “Guidance Catalog for Industrial Structural Adjustment (2024 Edition)” issued by the Chinese authorities has a guiding role in how China’s tyre industry will develop in the next year. The new guidance document will be effective from February 1, 2024, covering three categories: encouragement, restriction, and elimination.
The content of the published documents shows that industrial upgrading, environmental protection and encouraging high-quality development of the manufacturing industry will still be the core elements in 2024.
Specifically, the Chinese government encourages “high-performance radial tyres using green processes”. This type of tyre product is defined as “under the 55 series, with a rolling resistance coefficient ≤ 9.0N/kN and a wet grip index ≥ 1.25). At the same time, the Chinese authorities encourage the development of aircraft tyres and giant engineering tyres (49 inches or more), agricultural radial tyres, and the production of supporting special materials and equipment.
Bias tyres, cycle tyres (including trolley tyres), nylon cords, and steel cords with an annual output of less than 50,000 tons are items that appear in the “restriction” category.
Bias tyres with an annual output of 500,000 units and below” and “tyres with natural cotton cord fabric as the skeleton” have been clearly included in the elimination category.
