Pirelli travelled to Valencia for the first European round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli at the weekend. The Italian tyre manufacturer has supported the single-make series since the competition’s creation in 1992, through its growth to a three-continent journey to some of the world’s best racing circuits. Pirelli supported the Spanish event with 2,500 tyres, transported by six trucks and mounted on the 47 competing cars by a team of 15 people, plus technical and support staff. Having started the series in Homestead, Florida, at the start of March, the 2023 edition will be augmented by the Ferrari Challenge Japan, with one of the three races to be held at Suzuka. The Japanese track joins other iconic circuits such as Silverstone, a race valid for the Ferrari Challenge UK, Monza, Spa, Spielberg, and Abu Dhabi. Le Mans is also on the packed calendar this year.
Drawing upon information from two anonymous sources, Russian newspaper Kommersant has named Moscow-based holding company S8 Capital as a potential purchaser of Continental’s assets in Russia, including its tyre plant in Kaluga. Kommersant shares that S8 Capital, owned by entrepreneur Armen Sargsyan, has already acquired a lift manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg from Otis Worldwide Corporation.
CNH Industrial has approved Ceat Specialty to supply agricultural radials for farming equipment manufactured in Brazil and Argentina, and this new relationship commences with shipments of Ceat Farmax tyres for fitment on Case IH and New Holland tractors. Ceat Specialty shares that the agreement followed the OEM engaging in “several rounds of assessment and audits” relating to Ceat’s radial tyre plant in Mumbai, India.
Nokian Tyres has begun construction work on a finished goods warehouse at the Dayton, Tennessee production site where it is currently doubling production capacity for all-season and all-weather tyres and adding light truck tyres to the product mix. The warehouse will hold as many as 600,000 tyres and should be ready for use by mid-2024.
On 24 March, the European Commission granted The Yokohama Rubber unconditional antitrust clearance to acquire all outstanding shares in Trelleborg Wheel Systems. The Competition and Markets Authority in the UK is currently reviewing the proposed acquisition and will announce its decision soon.
Giti Tire has signed a multi-year global co-branding agreement with Sparco, one the world’s leading manufacturers of motorsport safety systems and racing equipment. The Giti brand becomes global automotive tyre partner of the Italian brand under the deal, while the slogan “Giti – Powered by Sparco” will appear on the sidewall of key UHP sizes from 2024. The development of these products will form a “bridge” between the businesses, according to Sparco.

The publication looked at 12 all-season tyres in size 235/55 R17. It fitted these to a VW T6 and then found out how the tyres performed in dry, wet and snowy conditions. Three products gained the top ‘exemplary’ rating and Auto Bild opined that they, along with four ‘good’ rated tyres, are well-suited to the task at hand.

February 2023 marked a significant milestone in the history of original equipment (OE) component manufacturer and system supplier Denso, as it is 50 years since the company opened its first regional headquarters in continental Europe and Denso Europe was established. “The European business began in the Netherlands in 1973, with a workforce of just five,” explains Denso Europe, pan European strategic marketing manager, Fatiha Laauich, “but by 1987, it had grown substantially with the addition of a new facility to remanufacture starters and alternators for Toyota.”
