Tesla Cybertruck spare tyres made by Goodyear
Tesla’s Cybertruck is back in the headlines. Elon Musk’s decision to repeat the now infamous Cybertruck armoured glass demonstration paired with the Cybertruck’s infinitely more impressive drag race win against a Porsche 911 – while towing a 911 – has ensured that much. But which tyres are carrying all that load and handling all that torque? Back in 2019, we broke the news that Goodyear was supplying tyres for the Tesla Cybertruck, but is that still the case and if so, which factory is supplying some of the highest of high-torque-high-load tyres?
Four years ago, we reported that Goodyear was making tyres for the Cybertruck, something that was evident from the appearance of a Wingfoot design on the sidewall. Now however, Tesla itself is communicating that Goodyear tyres are being fitted to Cybertrucks and – even more specifically – Goodyear are supplying a spare tyre kit too.
A closer look at the sidewall reveals two important facts relating to the origin and performance of the Cybertruck’s tyres. Firstly, they are made in the USA. Secondly, the DOT code states that the tyres fitted by Tesla were manufactured by Goodyear at the company’s Fayetville, North Carolina tyre factory back in mid-April 2023.
As far as performance is concerned, the tyre states that it is load range “D”-rated, which means it features eight plies and can be inflated up to 65 PSI in equal-to or less-than 295mm wide variants.
Meanwhile, the tyre bears a load rating of 123/120, which means the tyres can loads of between 1400kg and 1550kg.
As far as size is concerned, photos of both fitted tyres and close-ups of the spares concur that Goodyear is supplying 285/65R20 tyres to Tesla for the Cybertruck.
Of course, the way things work with original equipment deals means we can’t confirm whether or not there are additional tyremakers sending tyres for fitment on the Tesla Cybertruck. But we do now have the clearest confirmation yet that Goodyear rubber is adorning the world’s most famous electric pickup.
