Sentury’s Morocco tyre plant to start construction in Q1 2024

Groundworks were visibly underway in October 2023, but construction of the new Sentury factory, the first tyre manufacturing plant in Morocco in more than 25 years, will start in the first quarter of 2024. Indeed, Tyres & Accessories has seen a video depicting Sentury chairman Qin Long on-site in Morocco observing progress with the project.
According to local news sources, local authorities launched a public inquiry into the environmental impact of the factory Sentury intends to build on a 20-hectare plot near Tangier. The necessary building permit reportedly hinges on the outcome of the impact investigation.
Morocco’s Impact magazine reports that experts don’t expect local authorities will present any blockages “given the high standards in this area that Sentury Tire Morocco aims for” particularly in terms of “recyclability and respect for health and the environment” namely “Aliapur, Reach, TÜV Rheinland”.
Local news sources observe that the project will allow Morocco restart its domestic tyre business which “died out with the successive closure of the General Tire (2002) and Goodyear (2006) factories, thus giving way to imports from the European Union or the Quadra (also called the Agadir Agreement which brings together Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan and Morocco), which are carried out exempt from customs duties”.
