Pirelli – German plant important for OE business
Goodyear and Michelin are pruning their operations in Germany in the face of rising energy costs and increased competition from budget brands, and the local rubber industry association didn’t paint a rosy picture of the tyre-making future when it met in November, but one manufacturer has expressed commitment to its German manufacturing site. Pirelli says it has “no plans” to end production at its Breuberg plant.
Speaking with German newspaper Die Welt, Pirelli executive vice chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera described the Breuberg factory as “future-proof,” adding that it is one of the company’s plants that “invests the most in the latest technologies.”
Tronchetti Provera considers the Breuberg plant, which counts 250 engineers amongst its workforce of 2,500, to be “central to Pirelli’s relationship with German car manufacturers, where Pirelli has a large market share in the high-end segment.” Therefore, the tyre maker has “no plans to close the plant.”
