Apollo R&D chief advisor named ‘Sustainability Professional of the Year’
P K Mohamed, chief advisor, R&D, Apollo Tyres Ltd has been lauded as ‘Sustainability Professional of the Year’ at the 10th edition of the World Sustainability Leadership Awards 2023. The accolade was conferred upon Mr Mohamed at a gala event held recently in Mauritius.
In his current capacity, P K Mohamed oversees the global development of sustainable raw materials, which company representatives explain plays “a pivotal role in propelling Apollo Tyres to achieve significant milestones in its sustainability journey.”
Under his guidance, Apollo Tyres has charted a course towards sustainability by accomplishing notable milestones, including development of sustainable raw materials, innovative technologies for end-of-life tyre management, and the implementation of carbon neutrality improvement programmes. These milestones have been realised through collaborative ventures with esteemed universities, research institutes, suppliers, and other stakeholders, pointing to a commitment to collective progress in sustainability.
Notably, Apollo Tyres has committed to a sustainability roadmap that involves integrating 40 per cent sustainable materials into their production processes by 2030, making a substantial leap towards eco-conscious manufacturing practices. Additionally, the company has set its sights on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, a testament to their unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship.
In his acceptance of the ‘Sustainability Professional of the Year’ award, Mr Mohamed expressed gratitude for the recognition while attributing the success to the collective efforts of Apollo Tyres’ team and their collaborations with stakeholders committed to advancing sustainability.
The World Sustainability Leadership Awards 2023 are run under the aegis of World Sustainability, which is a not-for-profit organisation.
