UK and EU the main Spanish automotive parts export destinations
During the second quarter of 2023 exports of Spanish automotive equipment and components rose +7.6 per cent year-on-year, totalling 8,049 million euros. Between May and August, EU27 countries represented the biggest export grouping, amounting to a 67.1 per cent share of global export figures. The value of exports to EU countries rose +11.4 per cent in the period, reaching €5,400 million.
Germany was the largest single automotive component export partner, with exports up +11.5 per cent, amounting to €1,366 million during the period. France was the second-largest, with exports up +6.7 per cent to €1,287 million. Exports to Portugal rose +11.6 per cent to €694 million. Italy-bound exports went up +4 per cent to €399 million. Poland was the fastest EU, riser with exports from Spain up +35.5 per cent to €346 million.
Outside the EU, the UK is the main commercial partner of the Spanish automotive components sector. Spanish parts exports to the UK rose +13.9 per cent compared with the same period in 2022 to €431 million. And therefore, the UK is currently the fourth-largest Spanish auto parts export partner overall after Portugal and ahead of Italy.
Meanwhile, there was also dynamic growth in exports to Morocco, with exports there up +24 per cent, reaching €389 million. Meanwhile, exports to the United States market dropped -41 per cent to €323 million. The growth in Turkish exports was the overall fastest riser, up +56 per cent year-on-year to €198 million.
