New ContiPT18 solid tyre for material handling operations incorporates tread wear indicators

Continental has introduced an updated ContiPT18 solid tyre with new tread wear indicators into its material handling portfolio. In addition to standard sizes, the tyre will be available in eight new sizes in the second quarter of 2024. Used primarily in intralogistics, the ContiPT18 product line is designed for indoor and outdoor use on any surface and is suitable for the highest demands and applications in three-shift operation.
The most noticeable new feature of the new ContiPT18 is the newly incorporated tread wear indicator on both sidewalls of the tyre. Conti says this is designed to help maximise utilisation and contribute to greater sustainability by making it quicker and easier to determine when to change a tyre. It reflects the trend of premium tyre manufacturers seeking ways to reduce overall operating costs, or total cost of ownership.
“With the new ContiPT18, we have developed a tyre that not only offers outstanding performance and energy efficiency, but also contributes to greater operating safety and efficiency,” says Matthias-Stephan Müller, product manager for Material Handling Tires at Continental Specialty Tires. All ContiPT18 tyres are also available in non-marking versions.
Müller adds that the ContiPT18 offers maximum performance thanks to its two-stage design: “Thanks to the modern tyre compounds we use, heat generation is low while wear resistance is high.” This results in high mileage combined with low rolling resistance. The tread provides grip and optimised transmission of lateral forces, even with heavy loads.
