Mongrip and Keep Fighting Foundation make bracelet from Schumacher F1 tyre
Roughly four years after Mongrip made jewellery out of some of late F1 star Ayrton Senna’s tyres, the company has partnered with the Keep Fighting Foundation to make a new collection of limited edition bracelets made from some of Michael Schumacher’s F1 tyres. Specifically, the bracelets are being made out of legendary 1996 Monza GP tyres in a bid to pay homage to “the extraordinary seven-time Formula 1 World Champion.”
The exclusive number one bracelet will be auctioned from the 17 to 30 November by Bonhams during the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi Auction Online.
Michael Schumacher is famous for his attention to detail. And the new bracelet reflects that. 91 bracelets was chosen as the limited edition because of the number of Schumacher’s victories. The 7 diamonds on the Platinum clasp pay tribute to his 7 world championship titles. But above all, a piece of the original tyre with which Michael Schumacher won his first Monza race in a Ferrari makes up the exciting and prestigious latest release.
In 1973, at the age of just four years old, Michael Schumacher sat in a kart for the first time on the circuit in the city of Kerpen, Germany. Fifty years later, the Monegasque brand Mongrip, in collaboration with the Keep Fighting Foundation, a charitable institution established by the Schumacher family, present the exclusive MZ96 collection.
Looking back to the 1996 Monza GP, company representatives speak of a passionate crowd of 120 thousand fans flooding the Italian racetrack, “painting the grey asphalt as red as their fervour”. Upon reaching the podium, Michael expressed his joy with a leap that would become a ritual with each of his future successes. Reflecting on that day, he said: “I have never seen so much emotion in the fans. It is a true collective madness and this is possible only in Italy. It’s fantastic, I had goosebumps on the podium: the fans have waited a long time for this result and they deserve it all!”.
Along with the certificate of authenticity containing all the information and images related to the tyre used by Michael Schumacher during the 1996 Monza race, an NFT card will be included. Through this card, the bracelet’s owner can obtain the digital certificate of authenticity via blockchain.
For those unable to secure the No. 1, a first batch of seven bracelets will be available for purchase on 7 December 7pm (GMT+1) on the official company website www.mongrip.com. Subsequently, the date for the availability of a second batch of bracelets will be announced. Some pieces from the collection will also be accessible starting from Saturday 9 December at the brand’s official retailers in the Principality of Monaco.
“In addition to contributing to projects with which we identify, the collaboration with Keep Fighting Foundation aims to share a relic of an incredible sporting and human history so that never can be forgotten, just as we must always believe in our dreams…This new edition not only aims to pay homage to the legendary Michael, but to offer an authentic collector’s item and excellent fashion accessory for fans who want to stand out and leave their mark as Schumacher did in Formula 1″, states Giancarlo Medici, CEO of Mongrip.
“I can hardly imagine anything more incredible than wearing a piece of authentic racing history on my wrist”, says Sabine Kehm on behalf of Keep Fighting Foundation, adding: “That must be a fulfilment for any motorsport fan. For the Keep Fighting Foundation, which aims to continue Michael’s charitable work, the collaboration with Mongrip is both an honour and a pleasure, because we clearly share the same passion. Michael’s name is synonymous with quality and excellence, and nothing less is demonstrated with this Limited Edition. With such a special piece of jewellery, his legacy is served in a big way.”
When the MZ96 goes on sale on 7 December 2023 it will be priced at 8.000,00 euros (excluding tax).
