Goodyear Kmax S, D Gen-2 17.5 -19.5” range debuts at Solutrans 2023
Goodyear will launch the new Kmax S (steer) and D (drive) Gen-2 17.5” and 19,5” commercial vehicle tyres at French commercial vehicle trade show Solutrans 2023 (21-25 November, Lyon; Hall 5, Location A031). Goodyear has enhanced the fuel efficiency of its second-generation Kmax range. The manufacturer says the enhancements to its product range respond to evolving market demands like emission reduction and electrification, as well as reducing costs. The Gen-2 steer and drive Kmax tyres will be available from the beginning of 2024.
Goodyear notes that many transportation companies require durability and reliable performance in various weather conditions. They are also interested in potential cost savings and sustainability benefits as well as increased ranges for electric vehicles. The new Goodyear Kmax Gen-2 S and D 17.5” and 19.5” tyres offer robustness and reliability, the manufacturer states. They are suitable for both conventional and electric vehicles.
The new sizes are based on Goodyear’s Kmax Technology with robust carcass constructions, and optimised tread design. Goodyear says the tyres offer C-grade energy efficiency; electric drive readiness; high mileage performance in all applications; functional versatility in applications from long haul to urban traffic; durability in adverse service conditions and extreme climates; and winter capabilities and life-long traction features, in compliance with new and upcoming regulations. The Goodyear Kmax S&D Gen-2 also incorporates RFID connectivity, supporting optimal tyre tracking.
The Goodyear Kmax S&D Gen-2 tyres are electric drive ready, designed to handle the increased weight and torque of electric vehicles. Goodyear says the transition to electrified vehicle fleets in both urban and regional settings necessitates the preservation of existing tyre feature while integrating new elements specifically designed for electric vehicles. These elements include reducing rolling resistance to improve energy efficiency and extend EV range; extra tread stiffness in drive tyres to enhance torque efficiency; thick rubber sidewall coatings to protect against urban wear and tear; and a robust carcass to accommodate EVs’ varying loads, ensuring ample durability throughout tyre lifespan
Maciej Szymański, marketing director commercial Europe at Goodyear, said: “The Kmax S&D Gen-2 solidifies Goodyear’s position as a forward-thinking player in the market. The launch of the new sizes strengthens our offering, allowing customers for a broader range of applications and improved reliability.”
