Bridgestone gains Airbus supplier award
Airbus has bestowed a supplier award upon Bridgestone Corporation in recognition of the tyre maker’s “efforts to realise a sustainable society.” Bridgestone received this award, given in the sustainability category, during last month’s Airbus Global Supplier Conference in Toulouse, France.
“We are honoured to receive this Airbus supplier award in sustainability category as a tyre supplier,” stated Nobuyuki Tamura, vice-president and senior officer at Bridgestone responsible for Global Mining, Industrial, Construction and Aviation Tire Solutions. “Through the learning from Airbus life cycle assessment activities, we are accelerating our initiatives. Throughout the initiatives in the whole value chain, we are enhancing both customer value and social value with various partners including Airbus.”
Working to reduce environmental impacts
Bridgestone says that in the aviation business, it is working to achieve carbon neutrality and a circular economy-based business model in several ways. The company is increasingly utilising renewable energy such as solar and wind power to reduce CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process while “evolving its global supply chain management” to reduce CO2 emissions in transit. Furthermore, by maximising the use of natural rubber and by ensuring aviation tyres can be retreaded more than once, Bridgestone can achieve a recycled and renewable material ratio of approximately 80 per cent. Last but not least, Bridgestone has worked together with Airbus since 2021 to help it reduce environmental impact across the entire lifecycle of an aircraft.
