Yokohama becomes BTRDA Sporting Trials series tyre supplier
Yokohama has become the official rear tyre supplier for the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Sporting Trials series. The manufacturer will supply the G.T. Special Classic Y350 in size 165/80R15 to competitors; Yokohama says the tyre blends “vintage appearance with cutting-edge tyre technologies.” Yokohama calls the series “a unique test of driver control, with entrants having to perfect a challenging mix of momentum, throttle control and choice of driving line.”
The G.T. Special Classic Y350, is designed for historic Japanese and European cars from the 1960s and 70s. While it resonates with history by retaining a classic appearance, it utilises the latest tyre technologies, ensuring both drivability and safety for historic cars.
Simon Clarke, motorsport / warranty tyre technician at Yokohama, said: “Sporting Trials is a unique and challenging discipline that requires precision and finesse. We’re delighted to be the official rear tyre supplier for BTRDA Sporting Trials 2023. Our G.T. Special Classic Y350 is designed with both heritage and modern technology in mind, making it a fitting choice for such an esteemed series. We look forward to supporting the competitors and contributing to the rich history of the BTRDA.”
The BTRDA dates back to 1938 and is renowned for its focus on Sporting Trials. Sporting Trials is not a test of speed, but a challenge that combines precision, tactics, and skill to navigate through a laid-out course without stopping. Crucially, a passenger’s ability to transfer weight can significantly affect the car’s progression through the section.
Stuart Beare, chairman of the BTRDA Sporting Trials said: “We’ve found Yokohama to be incredibly supportive of our sport, Sporting Trials, and the supply chain is superb. The G.T. Classic tyre that’s been chosen is proving very popular with drivers and the clerks of the course, and we look forward to a long and successful association with Yokohama”.
The next round of the 2023 BTRDA Sporting Trials series, the Mercian Trial, takes place in Long Compton, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire on Sunday 15 October.
The BTRDA Sporting Trials will be followed by the 2023 Gold Star & Silver Star Final Championship event commencing on 20 January 2024, Gale Hall, Nr Melmerby, Penrith.
