Sportiest on asphalt – Pirelli announces Scorpion Trail III
From January 2024, Pirelli is introducing a new generation of Scorpion Trail and promises that this will be the Scorpion range’s “sportiest tyre ever on asphalt.” The manufacturer is currently completing its final, rigorous outdoor tests of the Pirelli Scorpion Trail III prior to the tyre’s public debut.
Pirelli developed the enduro street tyre for maxi enduros that “combine excellent performance on asphalt and in light off-road usage.” Enduro has become one of the most important two-wheeler market segments in recent years and Pirelli explains that it has chosen to focus upon “tyres with increasingly sporty road performance but with an off-road look,” with particular attention to “ease of use in different road conditions.”
Describing Pirelli Scorpion Trail III, the tyre maker speaks of a tyre that “presents an aggressive tread look” behind which “lies strong technological innovation.” It utilised its “most recent technologies, materials, and processes” to develop the tyre as well as knowledge gained in the ‘big enduro’ segment. Pirelli says this has resulted in a tyre that responds to “the most demanding market expectations” by offering “first-rate road qualities.”
Generational improvements
Compared with predecessor tyre the Scorpion Trail II, Pirelli reports that the newcomer guarantees significantly improved road handling and sportier behaviour thanks to excellent grip, as well as better performance in the wet. Furthermore, the manufacturer says that Scorpion Trail III ensures stability even with full load and can best interact with the machine’s electronic systems. Finally, in regard to off-road riding, Pirelli has “significantly improved” abrasion resistance, which is an important parameter for those who love venturing on dirt roads.
“Scorpion Trail III is the perfect tyre for tackling fun asphalt routes full of curves and is dedicated to all those motorcyclists looking for a product with a tread design dedicated to big enduro bikes on the road with excellent performance, both in dry and wet conditions, combined with sporty behaviour and good mileage,” Pirelli shares.
Pirelli is targeting Scorpion Trail III at 400cc and larger bikes equipped with 19- or 21-inch front tyres – motorcycles capable of tackling long journeys with light off-road sections. During 2024, it will complete the range with 17-inch front and rear equipment dedicated to crossovers.
